Operation Stoplifting at Southport Middle School

Students from each Social Studies class at Southport Middle School were invited to a visit the media center for a presentation by the Port Saint Lucie Police Department for a program initiative called Operation Stoplifting. The program led by Stacy Paton, Crime Prevention Specialist for the PSLPD, and Officer Frank Borges who updated students on the hazards of shoplifting. Frances K Sweet second graders explore forces that shape the Earth

Students in Mrs. Stacey Johnson’s second grade enrichment group at Frances K. Sweet Elementary school are learning about forces that shape our Earth. Students in Mrs. Patricia Jones third grade class at Frances K. Sweet worked as engineers on the second day of school. Their project was to create a name tag they could attach to their bodies visible to the teacher and their new classmates. The criteria included proper conventions of their name, visible from a distance, it would remain attached to them with out falling off, include at least one picture to represent themselves, and they must have used at least three colors. Northport Welcomes BBBS Americorps Tutors as Community Partners!

Northport VPK-8 School welcomes four tutors for our kindergarten, first, and second grade learners from the SLC Big Brothers, Big Sisters AmeriCorps School-Based Mentoring program. This year, Barbara Despinos, Scott Hinckley, Tessa Falatovich and Azzam Abdur-Rahmen will service 34 children. The tutors will work with matched students on specific reading skills as targeted by their teachers and augmented by testing data. Tutors work on phoneme segmentation, letter sounds and names, word fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and passage reading to build reading skills and collaborate with the classroom teacher to give students more time and more direct instruction. Operation Graduation Night at Centennial High School

Operation Graduation Centennial hosted its very first Operation Graduation Night  on August 27.  Centennial Administrators, Guidance Counselors and  several teachers participated in the event to provide parents and seniors with information about graduation requirements.  

VGE Welcome Back Bus Breakfast

Village Green Environmental Studies School welcomed their amazing bus drivers back to school with a breakfast and PBS training on Friday, August 28, 2015. VGE loves their drivers!

VGESS Barnes & Noble Book Fair

On Thursday, August 27, 2015 many Village Green teachers, students, and families attended the Barnes and Noble Book Fair.  The night was a great success. Guest readers read to the book-hungry crowd.

Project E.A.G.L.E

      Centennial High School launches Project Eagle.  Every Athlete Giving Leading Excelling.  Project Eagle is a program designed for student athletes to represent Centennial by volunteering in the community.  There will be extensive volunteer opportunities throughout the year and each student athlete is encouraged to volunteer for at least 20 hours.  It a way for our student eagles to give back to our community and make a difference. Wildlife Around Us at West Gate K-8

Fourth grade students at West Gate K-8 participated in the presentation “Wildlife Around Us”.  This program allowed them to meet an owl, hawk, baby alligator, and snakes.  The students learned about the need for habitat protection and how to co-exist with native wildlife.  

Public Defense Attorneys Support Leadership at Gaines Academy

The St. Lucie Public Defense Office is sponsoring a tie drive to support SGA’s Leadership Days. All middle school students participate in a Successful Scholar elective focusing on goal setting, organizational, study and communication skills needed for success in college and careers. Each Thursday, students are encouraged to wear “Professional Dress”. Seventy ties have been donated for our young men to wear. Bayshore Elementary would like to thank all of our local heroes who joined us for our Tunnel of Hope welcoming our students back to school on Monday. We were joined by the Port St. Lucie Police Department, St. Lucie County Fire Department, and the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie.

Northport Participates in Community Initiative to Fight Sickle Cell Disease!

Northport VPK-8 School Community, along with Northport ESE instructor, Marie Solide is proud to invite our entire community to participate in a 5K Walk/Run to benefit “Tough Kookie Foundation, Inc.” Tough Kookie, was founded last year with lots of work by Mrs. Solide who lost her beloved daughter, Kookie to Sickle Cell Disease. Northport administrators, teachers, students and parents have been behind Marie in her healing process and her building of this wonderful community support group and sanctioned 501c. Rivers Edge Kicks Off Year Reading & Believing

Rivers Edge Elementary Otters had an outstanding first week. Beginning their day reading plays an important role in creating a superb way to begin their day and year. Staff and parents both are thrilled that students are increasing their fluency while beginning their day in a quiet manner. Our Staff was thrilled to receive t-shirts with our theme for the year – “Believe.” Joining together to believe in our students and each other to find a way (or make a way) to keep our school outstanding!

Mariposa’s Fifth Grade N.E.E.D. Students Visit the Capital

Mariposa Elementary’s 5th grade Monarchs received a well-deserved recognition for their participation in the NEED Project. This project encourages and rewards student leadership and innovation by sponsoring a Youth Awards Program for Energy Achievement.  Students in the NEED program, led by Mrs. Carla Bargeron, were awarded the Florida Elementary runner up for their excellent job educating younger students in energy conservation.
