Fort Pierce Central’s Cobra Battalion Raider team took home first place for both the Mixed Team Obstacle Course and Mixed Team overall during Fort Pierce Westwood’s Raider Competition. “The cadets showed some outstanding teamwork and intestinal fortitude,” said the team’s coach, retired Lieutenant Colonel Matt Saxton. The Cobras fielded two 10-cadet mixed teams (boys and girls) for the Westwood competition. “The mix of boys and girls is really good for everyone,” said Cadet Staff Sergeant Cassady Green. Students in Mrs. Logue’s fifth grade science class at Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts investigated four different chemical reactions during a class lab. Students were able to describe the basic physical properties of matter, make careful observations, and identify common signals that a chemical reaction had occurred including a color change, an endothermic reaction, an exothermic reaction, and a gas release.
SLW Centennial’s Senior Class sponsored a beautification project by painting the Eagle Cafe.
The SLW Centennial Baseball Team devoted their time and gave back to the community by reading to first graders at St. Lucie West K-8.
Manatee Academy was fortunate to have the dynamic Patty Mayer from our local Red Cross speak to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes. Debbie Remington, Manatee’s media specialist organized the event. The Pillowcase Project is a preparedness education program for children in grades 3 – 5 which teaches students about personal and family preparedness, local hazards, and basic coping skills. Generally given as a 40-minute presentation by Red Cross volunteers, the program leads students through a “learn, practice, share” framework to engage them in disaster preparedness. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider team competed in Fort Pierce Westwood’s Raider Competition against 17 teams from 7 other schools. The competition consisted of six events: 3 mile team run, Cross Country Rescue, The Raider Fitness Challenge, 200lb tire flip over a 100-meter course, an obstacle course and the One-Rope Bridge event. Before the Cross Country Rescue, everyone takes a written first aid test, during the event the team simulates a casualty by carrying an 80-120lb stretcher over a mile long course while wearing three 30lb ruck sacks. Manatee Academy’s Pre-Vet class organized a fantastic school-wide collection program this year for “Save the Chimps,” a local animal sanctuary that cares for about 300 rescued chimpanzees. Students donated over 535 items to this local organization. The goal of the non-profit animal sanctuary is to provide endangered chimpanzees a private, comfortable existence in an environment which simulates a natural habitat as closely as possible. Every chimp costs $16,000 per year to support, and chimps live to an old age of 80 years on average. Northport is thrilled to take part in such an important and vital issue. Bullying can become pervasive if left unchecked. St. Lucie Public Schools is honored to have been named as the recipient of this year’s United Way “Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award.” This award is conferred annually on an organization that demonstrates outstanding contributions within St. Lucie County to one or more of the United Way core impact areas of focus that include Health, Education, and Income.
Fort Pierce Westwood was this quarter’s highlight location for the Chamber of Commerce Education and Business Committee Breakfast. Principal John Lynch and a team of Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructors shared the innovative learning opportunities in which students participate. On Thursday evening, SGA parents attended the “A Day in the Life of an SGA Scholar” Parent Night. Parents began their journey in the audeteria where they learned about the Title I program. Also, they were excited about the announcement of the principal’s reading challenge. When the SGA students reach 250,000,000 reading steps, Ms. Wilke will do a cheer leading routine. After the initial session, parents made their way to their student’s pod to experience what their scholar does during their academic day. Students were excited to showcase their work.
Morningside students are creating a picture of “the Future” to help remember their past. Parents will be able to view and create gifts, stamps, and other items with their child’s art work.
Over 200 fathers and their children enjoyed freshly made donuts at Village Green Environmental Studies School in celebration of Dads Take Your Children to School Day!
Thank you to ALL of our dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, foster parents, and male role models for bringing your child to school at Lakewood Park Elementary. We had 138 male role models attend! Way to go Lakewood Park!!
Dads Take Your Child To School Day was a huge success at Gaines Academy. Fathers and other male role models streamed into Gaines Academy on Wednesday morning. They were treated to donuts and an inspirational message followed by smiles and laughter as they created a vision board with their child. Before leaving, the men signed the pledge to support and encourage their children’s success in school.
“Recycled MONSTERS were the theme at Manatee Academy in preparation for the upcoming MONSTER Book Fair next week. Students also had to Guess How Many Eyeballs in a fish tank to get a free Book Fair book. A MONSTER PUMPKIN contest and Door Decorating contest enabled teachers to join the fun and earn gift certificates worth $50.00 and $100.00 respectively in Book Fair goodies! A THRILLER Flash Mob is planned for FREAKY FAMILY Book Fair Night!
