Fort Pierce Central aerospace institute students build wind tunnel, teach eighth graders

Students enrolled in the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Aerospace Institute at Fort Pierce Central High School, a joint partnership between ERAU and the St. Lucie County School District, designed and constructed a 12-foot wind tunnel during the Fall 2012 term under the guidance of Professor Kevin Adkins. The wind tunnel was designed to assess aerodynamic forces on objects such as wings, aircraft, ships, and other blunt and streamlined bodies. Former Westgate Student Lends His Voice to Help Autism

Mozart Sobrinho stopped by his former school, West Gate K8, to perform a benefit concert for autism. Students in grades 3 through 8 were treated to a half hour concert which included his song “Stay with You” inspired by his former teacher and her autistic daughter. His performance allowed West Gate to raise over $500.00. The monies raised will help sponsor the April 11th, 2015 Walk for Autism Speaks.

Former principal visits elementary school

Students in Veronica Patrick’s second grade class at St. Lucie Elementary was paid a special visit from Mr. Reverend James Sullivan, a former principal of St. Lucie County Schools. Reverend Sullivan took the time to educate her students on Black History and honorable individuals remembered for their braveness, such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Ralph Bunche, and many more. Former parent and cancer survivor speaks to school gathering

Former F. K. Sweet Elementary School parent, community leader, and cancer survivor Aileen Pruitt spoke to the annual Circle of Hope gathering recently. She empasized to the audience the importance of taking good care of one’s body and “listening” to it for any signs of trouble. Aileen’s inspirational talk preceded the release of white doves and songs by the school chorus and fifth graders.

Tony Boselli, former Jacksonville Jaguar football player #71, spoke to the St. Lucie County school principals on Thursday, September 11th at 8:00 am at the School Board District Office regarding his company, Healthy Schools and the FluMist Vaccination Program. Officer Benjamin Johnson works for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and he did an amazing job of sharing with students what he does to protect the fish, wildlife, and residents. Jeff Cross, retired former Miami Dolphin’s player came to visit the sixth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition and spoke about perseverance, organization and staying on track with academics with their years to come. Former Mariposian Studies to Become a Future Teacher

Former student, Mark Jattan, comes back to Mariposa Elementary to shadow teachers. Mark is seen here with his former fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Sarah Letsch. Mark is interested in becoming a teacher and is currently attending the University of Central Florida.  He would like to begin his career teaching at the elementary school that started it all for him. He has a great deal of fond memories from Mariposa and would like to continue that tradition for the upcoming generation of Mariposians.

Rhyant, the former Executive Vice President and General Manager for Lockheed-Martin Marietta. Junior volunteers and former F. K. Sweet Elementary students Callie Zheng and Amelia Nelson are ace librarians when it comes to working in Barbara Whellams’ classroom library after school. They check book tubs to make sure books are returned correctly, sort out duplicates, and then lexile each book. With well over 5,000 books, lots of assistance is needed and appreciated.

Forest Grove team wins middle school science bowl

Twelve teams from six Title One Schools competed against each other in a science bowl competition at Westwood High School’s Marine Oceanographic Academy and FAU-Harbor Branch Oceanographic Center on Saturday, February 16th. The competition was a Jeopardy-style competition were two teams competed against each other in each match. Questions in the subjects of physical science, life science, earth and space science and mathematics were asked. Forest Grove Teacher Attends Justice Teaching Institute

Civics teacher Anne Powell of Forest Grove Middle School was one of twenty-five teachers selected from throughout Florida to attend the Supreme Court of Florida’s Justice Teaching Institute March 22-26 to learn about the state courts using a case study method. Powell and other teacher participants explored the courts and the Constitution in a four and one half day program with all seven justices serving as faculty. The Florida Law Related Education Association, Inc., coordinated the program and provided instructional assistance. Forest Grove Supports our Caribbean Neighbors

Forest Grove Middle School students and staff recently raised $800 for Bahamas Relief.  Furthermore, the students donated over 550 items to be transported to the Bahamas via Missionary Flights International. Forest Grove Students use Geometry Skills for Clean Water

The Forest Grove Middle School Honors Geometry classes learned how triangles and their points of concurrency assist in solving one of the most important problems in the world – supplying rural communities with clean water!  Students studied areas of the earth in need of clean water and the traditional ways of bringing clean water to these areas. Forest Grove Students See the Miami Heat

  Sixty Forest Grove students got the experience of a lifetime on March 17 when they got to see the Miami Heat play at the American Airlines Arena.   After the game, students were able to go on the court and take a shot from the free throw line just like the players do!  This elite group of Bulldogs were nominated by their teachers for doing well in school academically and behaviorally.  Students also won a spot on the trip through PBIS events.   All of these well-deserving students will write about their experience at the game to share with the rest … Read More

Forest Grove Students are #1 in Florida and Georgia on Reading Plus

Mrs. Redic’s 4th period Critical Thinking class at Forest Grove Middle School was the middle school winner of the Reading Plus Race to 21 Competition. The class completed 1094 reading lessons with 660 of them scoring above 80%. That is an average of 60 lessons per student since the beginning of the school year. Congratulations Mrs. Redic’s Class!
