DCEC hosted a THANK YOU luncheon for community members.  Members from Kiwanis, Health Department, Restoring the Village, Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation, and Appreciation Financial participated.  The Kiwanis donated $1,000 and Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation donated $800 to the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Program. For both organizations, these donations are annual contributions for which the school is most thankful. According to Principal Harden, one of the luncheon guests indicated that his neighbor attends DCEC and he has seen a great difference in his behavior in the neighborhood since attending the school.

Bulldogs enjoyed an evening of Civics and Science at their Title 1 Parent Night. Families experienced technology-enhanced learning through QR codes with examples of Civics EOC questions. Science focused on heavily tested standards to show families how to attack those types of questions. Fun was had by young and old alike!    

First grade students enjoyed their day at the 4-H farm. Students were able to see up-close various animals on the farm.  

All five teams placed first at the Palms Regional Competition, and Mrs. Moore’s team placed fourth at the State level.  Congratulations, Bluejays!!!

Fort Pierce Central High School’s (FPCHS) student poets took to the stage with words spoken from the heart intended to excite and engage at this year’s Louder than a Bomb (LTAB) Poetry Slam. After discussing mysterious movers all week, and learning that wind, water, and planets are mysterious movers; the students in Mrs. Claudia Bonilla’s Mariposa VPK classroom learned about the solar system and how the planets are constantly moving. They learned the correct term to describe that movement — orbit. They then discussed which planets were closer to the sun, and they all held a planet, moon, or star and began to orbit. The use of technology, images, and songs were implemented as well. Students pictured: Brayden Myers, Arianna Jesse, Madilynn Bonocchi, and Shantel Perch.

Morningside Elementary hosted a dessert theater and silent auction fundraiser to support their school teams’ trip to the State Finals for Odyssey of the Mind.  Morningside was honored with Omer’s award for great teamwork at the Regional Competition held earlier in the year. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from K to 12th grades. He has supported Lincoln Park Academy’s (LPA) Lady Greyhounds round the bases for the last 14 years. Prior to that, he coached softball at Port St. Lucie High School and John Carroll.
