Lawnwood Leopards Discover History

Lawnwood Elementary 4th graders travel through history in the United States’ oldest city of St. Augustine. From cannon firings to pirate escapades to sipping eternal youth, students were able to discover their own answers to the frequently asked DBQ question “Why did Spain settle St.Augustine?”

Lawnwood Leopards Celebrated National Aviation Day

August 19th was National Aviation Day and the students of Lawnwood Elementary made paper airplanes.  The Resource Team led this PBiS event and students enjoyed learning about aerodynamics.  Students explored vocabulary terms like aviation, aviator, force, gravity, thrust, runway, and so much more.  Teachers supported students as they changed the design of the airplane to see how it affected the flight and speed of the plane.  Overall, it was a fun, engaging PBiS Science Event.  Go Leopards!

Lawnwood Leopards Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The October Parent Night was a hit!  All LWN families were invited to our Hispanic Heritage Celebration.  Families toured the class projects, dined at the taco bar, and enjoyed a talent show. In addition, fifth grade students participated in a wax museum performance to honor the lives of Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez.  Go Leopards!

Lawnwood Leopards Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Each VPK- Grade 4 class completed a class project.  Students studied various Hispanic countries and learned about the history and traditions of their country.  A special thank you goes out to Mr. McCarthy, Ms. Barreto, Mrs. Tison, and Mrs. Jackson for serving as a judge during this competition.  The scoring was based on creativity, content, originality, and organization.  Lawnwood Leopards are deepening their understanding of cultural diversity. Go Leopards!  

Lawnwood Leopards Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s Legacy

To celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy, Lawnwood Leopards participated in a week of kindness. The staff and students of Lawnwood Elementary donated 1,266 pairs of socks to the Salvation Army. Lawnwood Leopards Attend Math Night at Publix

K-5 Lawnwood Elementary students were invited to attend the Publix Math Night. Students teamed up with their parents to complete a scavenger hunt. It was a marvelous math event for the students of Lawnwood Elementary School. GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards are WINNING! The students of Lawnwood Elementary participated in the Kids at Hope/ Tunnel of Hope Activity.  A special thank you goes out to all of the community members and leaders for making this event a success.  We believe all children are capable of success, no exceptions!  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards are Using Their Reading, Writing, Science, and Math Skills as They Learn About Sea Turtles

Erin McCarthy’s ESE Resource Room students at Lawnwood Elementary participated in the Traveling Turtles Trunk Program through the Inwater Research Group. Students learned about the sea turtles that nest along the Treasure Coast by participating in hands-on labs. Mrs. McCarthy’s students shared their learning through writing paragraphs, creating graphic organizers, and crafting their own sea turtles. Their work is proudly displayed in the hallway.

Lawnwood Teachers are using technology to enhance instruction. Ms. Bellone uses the smartboard to help students as they use number lines to deepen their understanding of fractions.

Lawnwood Leopards Are Studying Earth and Space

Ms. White’s students are learning about the major common characteristics of all planets, and they are comparing/contrasting the properties of the inner and outer planets.  The students completed a graphic organizer, writing task, and an art project to demonstrate their learning.  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards are powered by data!  We are fully charged and ready to teach and learn! Pre-Service Week at Lawnwood Elementary School was truly AWESOME! During this exciting week, our faculty and staff members engaged in a variety of activities that set the tone for a fantastic school year. Coach Paul’s fifth-grade PE students enjoyed a game of Monster Ball. The students used small balls to move the big ball to the opposing team’s side. Students enjoyed the game as they used overhand and underhand throws to score points. GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards are Mathematicians

All K-5 Lawnwood students attended a grade level math competition. The goal of the competition was to encourage students’ interest in math, to develop their problem-solving skills, and to inspire them to excel in math.
