Lawnwood Students Present a Solar System Throw-Down for the Educational Channel

Lawnwood Elementary kindergarten, first grade, and second grade science scholars presented a “Solar System Throw Down”.   Planets, stars, the moon, an asteroid, a meteor, the milky way and even the “black hole” were given bragging rights to explain to the audience why “each” reigns supreme in the galaxy. The students researched their information, wrote a monologue,  built the costume, and created a character with “attitude” to the delight of parents and peers. Lawnwood Students Enjoyed the Vocabulary Parade

K-5 students enjoyed participating in a vocabulary parade.  Students showcased their understanding of different words through costumes and displays.  This parade was inspired by the book Miss Alaineus.  Overall, it was a fun and interactive way to enhance vocabulary skills. GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood students enjoy special holiday treat

Students from Lawnwood Elementary were recently treated to a special PBS activity, Pies with the Principals.  Students enjoyed their lunch and pie with assistant principal Kim Cain and principal D’Jion Jackson during their lunch time. Lawnwood Students are Engaged in Hands-on, Minds-on Learning

Lawnwood teachers provide students with hands-on science inquiry lessons. Ms. Jacob’s fifth-grade students are learning how heat and pressure can change rocks. Students applied heat and pressure to starburst candies which deepened their understanding of weathering and erosion.

Lawnwood Students Are Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

All LWN families were invited to attend our Annual Hispanic Heritage Family Night.  Together we learned about the contributions of influential Hispanic Americans like Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cesar Chavez.  A delicious taco dinner was provided as we celebrated Hispanic/Latin music and culture. It was another awesome LWN family night!  GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Student Are Researching Hispanic Countries

Every VPK – Grade 4 class selected a Hispanic Country.  Students were engaged as they learned about Hispanic cultures, foods, traditions, and music.  The teachers and students created a display board to showcase what they learned about their country.  A special thank you goes out to Laurie Boyer, D’Jion Jackson, Shemair Dorelus, Kim Jay, Jodie Certosimo, and Michael McCarthy for coming out to view the displays and select the winning classes. Overall, it was a great opportunity for students to work collaboratively and learn about Hispanic Countries.  GO LEOPARDS!      

Lawnwood Plants Seeds for PBIS

Lawnwood students planted seeds for their April PBIS event. Students enjoyed learning about gardening and growing plants while completing this activity. Go Leopards!

Lawnwood Parents Attended a Family Night

Parents received support as they learned how to use Skyward to access their child’s attendance information, grades, progress monitoring, reading and math scores, and so much more. A special thank you goes out to our School Counselors, Ms. Demontegnac and Mrs. Oge for coordinating and hosting our Skyward Family Night. GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood media specialist represents the faculty in dodgeball

Lawnwood Elementary Media Specialist, Mrs. Schaeperkoetter, represented her faculty team in April’s PBS challenge. The teachers joined a team of kindergarteners in  a game of dodge ball during the annual and popular award event.  The students worked for several weeks collecting “Lawnwood loot ” behavior rewards to participate in the friendly challenge, which included PE coaches, resource, and kindergarten teachers.

Lawnwood Leopards participated in a hands-on lab as they deepened their understanding of dissolved substances. They worked collaboratively by following directions, making predictions and observing the properties of dissolved substances.

Lawnwood Leopards Use Their Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Skills

Lawnwood Leopards use their mathematical thinking and reasoning skills as they collaborate during math instruction. Mrs. Ferrara-Slater’s fourth grade Math AMP Students (Accelerated Math Program) justify their results by explaining their method for solving math problems. Students are also encouraged to analyze the mathematical thinking of others. GO LEOPARDS!

Lawnwood Leopards Participated in the Elementary Science Showcase

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, several of Ms. Bosque’s fifth-grade students participated in the Elementary Science Showcase at the St. Lucie Public Schools District Office. Completing a science project deepens students’ understanding of a scientific investigation, and it requires them to apply scientific inquiry, a multifaceted activity. The processes of science inquiry include formulating investigable questions, constructing investigations, collecting appropriate data, evaluating the meaning of that data, and communicating the results.
