St. Lucie Public Schools Principals D’Jion Jackson and Lori Reid will represent the District leadership in this year’s 2017 Dr. Brian Dassler Leadership Academy (formerly Commissioner’s Leadership Academy). Local Kiwanis Club makes annual donation to Education Foundation

The Fort Pierce Sunrise Kiwanis Club presented its annual $1,000 donation to the St. Lucie County Education Foundation at the April 10, 2012, St. Lucie County School Board meeting. Local HOSA student leaders attend development camp

Twelve students, two from each of St. Lucie County’s six public high schools, were selected by their teachers for their aptitude and interest in science, to participate in a job shadowing experience at Vaccine Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) in Port St. Lucie. VGTI is recognized as a world class research institute that uses cutting edge technology and is on the frontier of science in the development of vaccines and immunotherapies that will improve human health around the globe. Local Educators Selected to Participate in Advanced Placement Program Reading

Two St. Lucie County Public Schools teachers were selected to participate in the College Board’s Annual AP Reading in World History. Sharon Ortiz, who teaches at Fort Pierce Central High School, and Celestine Dorsey, teacher at Fort Pierce Westwood High School, traveled to Salt Lake City this June to score AP World History Exams. Local church provides books for students to take home over holiday break

St. Bernadette Church in St. Lucie West supported a Project Children’s Literacy book drive to allow Garden City Early Learning Academy students to take a few books home with them during their Thanksgiving break. Local cheer teams earn spots for state competition

Lincoln Park Academy and St. Lucie West Centennial High School cheerleading squads recently competed in the regional cheerleading competition held in Tampa. Under the direction of coaches Traci Krencik at Lincoln Park Academy, and Sara Connell at St. Lucie West Centennial, both squads practiced very hard for the regional competition and the upcoming state competition to be held soon in Kissimmee. Local Author Reads at Palm Pointe

In recognition of Multicultural Children’s Book Day, the beginning Spanish class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition welcomed award winning local author Maritza Mejia. Mrs. Mejia read her book  Vanilla and Chocolate/Vainilla y Chocolate. Multicultural Children’s Book Day has as its mission not only to raise awareness for children’s books that celebrate diversity, but to get more of these books into classrooms and libraries.

Local Author Presents His Story to SLWCHS

Students at Centennial High School had the unique opportunity to hear about the  Holocaust from an unusual perspective as local author Peter Haase spoke on Friday, May 5. 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English students were privileged to attend a presentation by Mr. Haase, President of the Treasure Coast Writers’ Guild, who spoke  about growing up under the Nazi regime, being forced to join the Hitler Youth, and the devastation to Germany caused by Hitler’s years in power.

Local Airport – A Great Landing for Skilled Trades

Exciting projects are underway at St. Lucie County’s Airport. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and others participated in a groundbreaking event for the MRO (Maintenance, Rehab, and Overhaul) Hangar.  This facility will have the capability to house full-size jetliners for maintenance and overhaul — very positive for our county and for students working toward aligned industry certifications. The University of South Florida’s Interdisciplinary Center for Evaluation and Intervention (ICEI) is hosting webinars for parents and educators.  The webinars are a series of one-hour weekly webinars to help promote positive behavior in children and youth. The first webinar will be on July 14, 2020.
