St. Lucie Public Schools and Lego Education have formed a valuable partnership that supports students’ exploration in STEM education. This partnership was recently recognized at the Commissioner’s Business Recognition Awards Ceremony.   This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Commissioner’s Business Recognition Awards, and all the 2019 Honorees were noted for going above and beyond to uphold the legacy of past recipients.  Student outcomes and futures will improve throughout the state as a result of professional and personal endeavors of school and business partnerships.

Dr. Brian Dassler Leadership Academy, is a year-long, job-embedded professional learning opportunity designed to deepen the leaders’ skills for improving instruction. Over 160 principals and principal supervisors from 53 districts in Florida applied for this opportunity. The Academy represents the top educational leaders statewide, and it is an honor to have them represent the District.

Volunteers Needed for United Way’s Stuff the Bus Event

Each year, the United Way of St. Lucie County hosts a Stuff the Bus event. It is a one day push for the collection of school supplies at all local Walmart locations. This year the event will be held on July 20th from 9 AM – 3 PM. It is a great opportunity to come out and volunteer! Volunteers serve in 2 hour shifts at the Walmart of their choosing. Fort Pierce Central High School student Valerie Collins won 4th place for poetry in the National Beta Club competition in Oklahoma! Valerie was joined by thousands of other students at the 2019 National Convention for Beta Clubs around the world.  This convention offers a unique experience for Beta members to gather and collaborate on project ideas as well as share academic and leadership abilities with peers from around the globe.

Wildlife Biology Bootcamp

St. Lucie Public Schools students started their summer learning as they took part in the Oxbow Eco-Center’s “Wildlife Biology Bootcamp.” Students had the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a real scientist by joining in field studies alongside local biologists. Students experienced what science looks like out in nature as they explored the wildlife awaiting them in the preserve. The Oxbow Eco-Center is hosting weekly bootcamps throughout the summer ranging from Ecosystem Exploration to the Art of Puppetry.

Summer Meals Program

St. Lucie Public Schools will participate in the Summer Food Service Program during the months of June and July.  Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.  At open sites, all children, 18 years old and younger, are eligible for meals at no charge, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.  The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free … Read More

Students from Morningside Elementary traveled to Washington, DC for the NEED Youth Awards conference and were awarded the 2019 Elementary School of the Year at the State level and a 2019 National Finalist Award. Their project was focused on the theme of Kids Teaching Kids About Energy. Student Perks Program Recognized by Florida Association of Counties

St. Lucie County was awarded a County Government Best Practices Award from the Florida Counties Foundation during the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Annual Conference in Orange County last week. St. Lucie County received the award for Student Perks Coffee Cart program and was among seven counties honored during the FAC Celebration Dinner. Puppets Come Alive at the Oxbow Summer Camp July 29 – August 2

The Oxbow Eco-Center will offer its premier Art of Puppetry Camp this summer for children ages 8 to 12, running July 29 through Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will explore the many kinds of puppets with the help of professional puppeteers from around the state. Both IBEX Puppetry and Katie Adams’ Make Believe Theater will offer workshops on storytelling, the history of puppetry and puppet-making. Campers will build a variety of puppets, including giant dragonfly hand puppets, shadow puppets with moveable parts and sandhill crane marionettes.
