Northport BBBS Mentor Receives Childrens Services Scholarship

Northport K-8 School Big Brother, Big Sister Mentor Merisa Moroz has won a $1000 Scholarship for the University of North Florida from the Children’s Services Council. Merisa attends Mosaic Digital Academy and has served as a mentor this school year. Northport is thrilled to have a strong partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the AmeriCorps tutoring branch of the organization as well as the many programs offered by the Children’s Services Council. Northport Awarded PBIS Model School Status of GOLD!

It is with much pleasure that we inform our community that Northport has been awarded the PBIS Model School status of GOLD. After difficult and complex work for several years, our school has achieved the highest status awarded to a school. Northport Art Students Create the Emblem of America!

Northport Art students created an American Bald Eagle to adorn the main hallway outside the media center.  The eagle was created by students to promote patriotic education as the school honored 9/11.  The bald eagle is the emblem created by the Founding Fathers to represent our nation.  The fierce beauty and proud independence symbolize the strength of our country.  Students decorated and added messages to each feather.  Many thanks to Northport art teacher, Stephanie Ramirez for her leadership and instruction.

Northport Art Student Represents SLPS in Tallahassee

Northport student Chyanne Coins, 6th grader, won the district-wide visual art contest and will be representing St. Lucie School District at the state level “The Art in the Capitol” Competition, where 74 school districts will display their top winners. Wonderful job Chyanne and Mrs. Ramirez! ❤ Thank you to Mr. Gent, Dr. Perry and Mrs. Martin for coming to Northport to support the Arts in Education and our awesome student.

Northport and Oak Hammock Visit Westwood Ag and Vet Programs

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Agriscience and Veterinary Assisting students hosted virtual field trips. Northport K8 and Oak Hammock K8 students stayed in their classrooms and via Microsoft Teams they visited the Ag and Vet programs! The high school students shared info about the programs, highlighted their classroom labs and equipment, while the middle school students asked great questions. Northport and GiveBack2Kids Partner for Success!

Northport partners, Giveback2kids Inc., along with parents and families delighted in the awesome goodness of many kids during a recent celebration of children ❤. Northport’s partnership with David Gornitzky and James Monds offers proof in the pudding that we can steer children in the right direction and help them navigate a great course for their futures. Northport and FPC Collaborate in the Kitchen!

Northport’s 8th grade culinary students visited the advanced culinary classes at Fort Pierce Central High School. Central’s Chef Jesse Strell, in coordination with Ms. Rachel Savela, brought their students together to mentor and learn together. Northport students learned how to make a roux and many knife skills including the Rondelle cut.

Northport and First United Methodist of PSL Continue Partnership

Northport, along with community partners, First United Methodist Church of Port Saint Lucie,  are kicking off the Summer Reading initiative.  Delivery and organization of books has begun ? We love our partners in literacy.  ? 3640 books have been donated to the students @ Northport by the congregation? Thanks Church! Your partnership means the world to us.  The church also donated thousands of stuffed Easter eggs to the children of Northport. ?

Northport Welcomes Students

What a wonderful pleasure to welcome new students and to celebrate returning students and families with a flourish. Northport VPK-8 School and community welcomed back well over one thousand students on Monday, August 15. The morning was a culmination of planning and preparation on the part of the administration, teachers, and staff. Today is the day! Northport and BBBS partnered to make this year the best Dr. Seuss birthday party ever! Thanks to all of our guests who too visited Northport to read and enjoy time with the children. Thank you to Tiffany Tredor and her fifth grade students who served as ambassadors. Northport Advanced Band Represents With a Superior Rating!

Northport K-8 School Advanced Band, under the direction of Brian Hoce, received an overall Superior rating at the Music Performance Assessments held recently at Treasure Coast High School. Nearly all middle school bands were represented at the assessments from Saint Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee and Martin Counties. Parents and students were thrilled to learn of their Superior grade and realized that all their arduous work paid off with the posting of the grades. Northport Accepts Remarkable Gift For Military Support and Americanism

Northport Principal Glenn Rustay and Northport Media Specialist Lynne Gruszka proudly accept one of the most valuable gifts that a military hero can bestow, the Purple Heart. Dr. Miles J. Gill Jr., a local Vietnam Veteran and paratrooper has dedicated his father’s Purple Heart to the children of Northport K-8 School. The Purple Heart was earned by Sgt. Miles J. Gill Sr., 1 Company, 311 Infantry, 78 Division at the Field Hospital in Germany during World War II. The Purple Heart was pinned to Sgt. Gill’s chest in his hospital bed in January of 1945. Northport Accepts Generous Dedication From Local Korean War Veterans Chapter 106

Since 2006, Northport K-8 School has proudly incorporated a thriving Veterans Partners in Education program throughout the school. Veterans are visible and can be recognized as part of the fabric of Northport. One of the founding partners in the school’s veteran program was Peter Popolizio. Peter was a corporal who served valiantly on Pork Chop Hill in the Korean War. Mr. Popolizio earned many medals on Pork Chop Hill including the Silver Star. Northport abuzz with super spellers

Northport K-8 School has been buzzing with super spellers recently as 35 students in grades four through eight practiced using flashcards, spelling buddies and parent support to help make the annual Northport Spelling Bee a phenomenal success. Parents, fellow students and staff cheered as the school based winner was announced on the afternoon announcements. The spelling bee went eight intense, very professional rounds. The winner of the bee is Ashley Quijada, a seventh grade Northstar student. Northport 8th Graders Prepare for the Future

The 8th-grade students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class are preparing for the future. These students recently completed the ICT Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course, which culminated in an Industry Certification Exam. Through two rounds of testing, 100% of NorthStars 8th graders were able to become certified in Artificial Intelligence. Throughout the course, students studied the history of A.I., its current applications in robotics, and the predicted future of this ever-changing industry. North County Career Fair

The North County Career Fair was held on April 4th at the Havert L. Fenn Center. Approximately 400 juniors and seniors from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, Fort Pierce Central, Lincoln Park Academy, and Performance Based Preparatory Academy were in attendance. Students were able to meet and chat with company representatives, ask questions about their company and careers, interview, and possibly land internships.
