St. Lucie County’s Assistant Principal of the Year and one of Florida’s finalists for this prestigious honor Samantha Piscopo warmed up to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the St. Lucie Mets baseball game. She was accompanied by family and friends for an exciting evening of baseball on Thursday, April 25.
Mr. Luke Hall and The Symphonic Band 1 of Treasure Coast High School earned the Otto J. Kraushaar Award, which is the highest award bands in the state of Florida can earn. This honor is given to bands that earn a perfect record of straight superior ratings from each adjudicator at Marching, District Concert, and State Concert Music Performance Assessments throughout and entire school year. This is the first time the Titan band program has earned this award.
The newly formed Lincoln Park Academy Speech and Debate Team can boast of great accomplishments during its inaugural year as all six members qualified for State and one member qualified for Nationals. Team members Aaron Address, Jennifer Barajas, Daphne Bellot, and Zyla Marc qualified for State in the Program of Oral Interpretation. Alyssa Monaco also qualified for State in the category of Declamation, and Donald Smith qualified for Nationals in Dramatic Interpretation. Coaches Debra Scherer and Stuart Address are proud of the team and looking forward to next year.
FL-20081 at Treasure Coast High School has been selected as one of 376 units worldwide to receive the 2018-2019 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award.This award recognizes Air Force JROTC units that have performed well above and beyond normal expectations, and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force JROTC citizen development mission for America. Congratulations to Margeaux McKinney for her District 9 overall first place win for the Florida Retired Educators Association annual 5th grade essay contest. She was recognized at the FREA luncheon today at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens and awarded writing items to inspire her continued interest in writing. This is the third consecutive year that a Northport Rising Star student has taken first place! Mrs. Tredor was also recognized for this achievement.

The future is bright! Students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM classes created laser security systems today as part of their Laser and Photonics unit. Students are learning about reflection, refraction and the use of lasers in fiberoptic cable as well as their application in multiple career fields.
FORT PIERCE, FL – The venue for the St. Lucie County School Board Public Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 8:30 a.m. has changed to Fort Pierce Central High School’s auditorium located at 4101 S. 25th Street in Fort Pierce. The original location was slated for Allapattah Flats K-8 School. St. Lucie West Centennial High School students recently donated $2,500 to New Horizons of the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee to support mental health and addiction recovery programs for children and adolescents. The funds were raised during CENTennial Cares Week, a campaign promoting compassion and kindness in tribute of the students and staff that lost their lives last year at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. Congratulations to Fort Pierce Central High School Senior Laura Haggerty! Laura was honored on Senior Day for her academic and athletic accomplishments. With 4 Years Varsity Soccer and 3 Years Varsity Tennis, Laura will graduate this May from FPCHS with a 5.58 weighted GPA, and 3.98 unweighted GPA. She will also graduate from IRSC with her AA degree on May 2, 2019. Laura plans to attend the University of Florida in the fall to study engineering. Congrats Laura! Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra!

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal team on Thursday, April 18, 2019 hosted their annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt. The event took place place at Westside Church in Fort Pierce. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt is hosted each year for visually impaired students in the St. Lucie School District and features plastic eggs that beep, assembled by the bomb disposal team. The students and adults all have a wonderful time finding the beeping eggs!
Mr. Morales, a local peach farmer, and Sandy White, representative from Titan Farms located in South Carolina, partner in marketing Florida grown peaches, and made their first presentation to a first grade audience at Lakewood Park Elementary. The first graders were excited to learn how the peaches grow and created pictures to show how Florida peaches look. As a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program school, students were able to sample some of the peaches grown on the farm Mr. Morales operates in St. Lucie County, just a few miles away from Lakewood Park Elementary. What a yummy presentation!

LUCIE COUNTY, FL — In a competitive academic competition, local high school teams competed for top honors and individual team members vied for a seat on the prestigious Team St. Lucie – an elite six-member team representing St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) at the 34th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge.
