Noted Broadway, movie director, producer, mentors high school thespians

Celebrated Broadway, television and movie musical director and producer Michael Rafter has been working with the performing arts department and student thespians at Fort Pierce Central High School, sharing his experience, insight and strategies with the students necessary to produce a successful show, from selecting the script to closing the final curtain.  He will continue to collaborate with FPCHS in future drama productions. Norton and Chaney Inspire SLWCHS Eagles

Chris Norton, motivational speaker, delivered an enlightening and powerful message to the athletes of St. Lucie West Centennial High School on Saturday evening. In addition, Centennial’s own former Mississippi State standout and NFL linebacker, Jamar Chaney, spoke with the athletes. Jamar shared a message of resilience and of how his efforts, attitude, and faith paved the way for his success. This was a free event and also served as a second semester kick-off for Project EAGLE and F.C.A.

Northport’s Culinary Arts Program Caters to the Community

Northport’s Culinary Arts program students catered the Citizen Summit. They held after-school cooking sessions to prepare for the event. Select students attended Saturday’s event with Mrs. Tredor, Mrs. Butterworth, Mrs. Sharrah, and Mrs. Bailey, where they plated and served over 700 food samples to the public citizens attending the event. A big thank you also goes out to Mr. McDonald who stayed late with us to offer his expertise as well. Items included Caprese Tomato Skewers, Ham Pickle Roll-ups, and Key Lime Dippers.

Northport Young Chefs Savor Opportunity!

Northport culinary students were guests at the Daytona State College culinary competition. The 8th grade culinary students were spectators rooting for St. Lucie West Centennial High School and Fort Pierce Central High School in the culinary competition, waiter relay and edible arrangements competition. This was a great experience for our young chefs.

Learning to write authentically and with focus is a key part of the performance mission at Northport K-8 School. Northport Writer Extraordinaire!

NPK8 is celebrating the award winning writer, Madison Tredor! ?✍️ In case you haven’t heard, this author was just announced as the 1st place winner of the Florida Retired Educators Association 5th grade essay contest for the state! (“State of FLORIDA!”, as Maddy would add.) She will be recognized at the FREA state conference next month and wins a cash prize! Also notable, this is her teacher, Mrs. Tredor’s 6th consecutive win for St. Lucie FREA and District 9 FREA, and second state win! #NPK8risingstars Northport Is so proud!

Northport Works on Flight and Space

This IS Rocket Science! As part of their “Flight & Space” unit, students in Mr. Fess’ 7th grade Northstars STEM class constructed and launched model rockets. These students have been studying aerodynamics and propulsion systems in addition to the history and present state of rocketry and human spaceflight. Virtual students participated as well. Mr. Fess had previously delivered rockets to these students so they could build along with him virtually and come in to launch.

Northport Wins Florida Retired Educators Essay Contest!

Congratulations to Margeaux McKinney for her District 9 overall first place win for the Florida Retired Educators Association annual 5th grade essay contest. She was recognized at the FREA luncheon today at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens and awarded writing items to inspire her continued interest in writing. This is the third consecutive year that a Northport Rising Star student has taken first place! Mrs. Tredor was also recognized for this achievement.

Northport Welcomes Students With Host of Community Partners!

The first morning of school was flawless and welcoming as community members, parents, grandparents, teachers and administrators welcomed students to a super successful new year at Northport K-8 School. Northport welcomes local veterans to celebrate special day

Northport Welcomes BBBS Americorps Tutors as Community Partners!

Northport VPK-8 School welcomes four tutors for our kindergarten, first, and second grade learners from the SLC Big Brothers, Big Sisters AmeriCorps School-Based Mentoring program. This year, Barbara Despinos, Scott Hinckley, Tessa Falatovich and Azzam Abdur-Rahmen will service 34 children. The tutors will work with matched students on specific reading skills as targeted by their teachers and augmented by testing data. Tutors work on phoneme segmentation, letter sounds and names, word fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and passage reading to build reading skills and collaborate with the classroom teacher to give students more time and more direct instruction. Northport VPK-8 School students from across the campus came together as a community to participate in the Annual Young Author’s program. Students, teachers and parents collaborated to bring the magic and joy of writing to Northport students. Students worked to think up great ideas from a variety of genre’s, write the story, edit, rewrite, illustrate, match the words to the pictures, develop plot, characters and setting and to bring conflict into the story line. Northport VPK-8 School Educates and Commemorates on 9/11

Each school year, Northport is pleased and proud to present to our students many different educational experiences about the tragedy of September 11, 2001. This year has been no different. Students in Melanie Polascak’s fifth grade class learned about the Survivor’s Tree which withstood the fall of the Twin Towers. Students made their own quilt to display in the school hallway to remember the Survivor’s Tree. Northport VPK-8 School Media Specialist, Lynne Gruszka and eighth grade student, Trey Bingham proudly accept the donation of three books documenting the legacies of a lengthy list of Medal of Honor recipients in our American History.
