October 19 – Wear It Pink

On October 19, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, join with others to wear pink. Why Wear It Pink on October 19th?  This is a day people come together in work places, schools, homes and communities to wear pink, raise money and show their support for breast cancer awareness. Oct. 25 – National Unity Day

St. Lucie Public Schools is planning a celebration to honor National Unity Day on October 25th. On this day, we are asking everyone to wear ORANGE to send a message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

During the November 22nd Organizational Meeting of the School Board, School Board Attorney Daniel B. Harrell administered the Oath of Office to School Board Member Carol A. Hilson (residing in District No. 2) and School Board Member Kathryn Hensley (residing in District No. 4). Oak Hammock’s Secret Garden

After a year of dormancy, Oak Hammock’s Butterfly Garden is sprouting back to life and is available for learning experiences. Ms. Campbell, 6th Grade ELA teacher, nurtured and cultivated a learning environment for students. The garden also provides a park-like atmosphere where students and staff alike can go to de-stress or meditate, and it is frequently used during SEL for students to have discussions and complete exploratory writing. Oak Hammock’s K -8 Band is Virtually Unstoppable

Oak Hammock K-8 MySchool students in 7th & 8th grade are creating wonderful music as members of the Osprey Band. The students have been working hard to create a virtual ensemble performance. Each student records their part of the selection, Ode to Joy and uploads it to Canvas. Ms. Isenhower, the band director, compiles all the recordings into one musical collaborative ensemble. Oak Hammock’s First Grade Students Celebrate Hispanic Culture

Mrs. Whitehead’s first-grade class celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with an exciting art project. Each student was given a paper hand to create a flag that represented different Spanish Countries. Four students enthusiastically presented influential figures in Hispanic heritage, showcasing their unique contributions to culture and history. Each student took turns sharing stories about their chosen individual. It was a wonderful way to appreciate the rich diversity of Hispanic cultures and to celebrate their differences while having fun!        

Oak Hammock’s Black History Month Museum

Oak Hammock celebrated Black History Month by showcasing influential people through an engaging museum. Each pod of teachers and students worked collaboratively to create a display of the person or people they selected to share with the school. Some of the displays included Garret Morgan who invented the traffic signal, Harriet Tubman who led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom through the underground railroad, as well as Katherine Johnson whose calculations were crucial to NASA’s space missions. Oak Hammock’s 1st Grade Student Displays Hidden Talent

Mrs. Peterson’s first-grade class and invited guests had a front-row seat to enjoy a musical selection conducted by their classmate B. Reynolds.  Reynolds started playing the piano at the young age of three. He has never had any formal lessons and does not know how to read or write sheet music. All his natural talent began on an iPad app. He is now self-taught by listening to songs and repeated practice. This goes to show that with practice and hard work, anything is possible!

Oak Hammock K-8 Students Unified During Bullying Prevention Month

Oak Hammock K-8 students participated in weekly activities to display unity and support for Anti-Bullying Month. Students on the 7th grade Raptors team, created the #BlockShade activity, where they focused on the importance of saying no to bullying and yes to kindness and friendships. Students not only worked together to participate in Stomp Out Bullying: Crazy Socks & Shoes Day, they also participated in Team Up Against Bullying: Team Jersey Day. Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade created pathways to Stomp Out Bullying.      

Oak Hammock third graders enaged in cooperative groups

Third graders in Amber Martin’s class worked in cooperative groups researching nonfiction books to identify main idea and details about both the Pilgrims and Wampanoag tribe of Native Americans. The groups presented their bubble maps to one another in class.

Oak Hammock Students Learn a Spanish Lullaby to Culminate the Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

Students in Ms. Garica’s 4th grade class played the lullaby Duerme Mi Tesoro, a Puerto Rican lullaby, on Orff Instruments during music resource. They learned how to sing the lullaby in Spanish and learned by using Solfège before learning the notes on the Orff Instruments. Solfège is an exercise that uses solmization syllables. The students had a great time and were very engaged in this activity.    

Oak Hammock students fall into books at literacy event

What better way to celebrate autumn than by “falling” into great books? Oak Hammock hosted a literacy night recently for students and families filled with ELA-related events. Students participated in a book swap, shopped at the book fair, made book marks, wrote silly stories and spooky poems, participated in book-related activities, and read their new books in the reading graveyard. Local author Stephanie Sisler read her books aloud to captive audiences, and Alicia Bell from the St. Lucie Public Library System helped families sign up for library cards. Oak Hammock students celebrate special week

Oak Hammock students recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week with support from the local Elks Lodge and Kids at Hope. The theme for the week was “A Healthy Me Is Drug Free.” Students took part in a door decorating contest, participated in presentations from the local Elks Lodge, and wore red each day in creative ways to represent their commitment to a drug-free life. Oak Hammock Seventh-Grade Band Performed at the Port St. Lucie Community Center

Under the leadership of Mrs. Amy Isenhower, the Oak Hammock Seventh-Grade Band gave a compelling performance during the Citizen Summit that was held at the Port St. Lucie Community Center. The audience was captivated and amazed at the musical ability the students displayed during this performance. Through the musical performance, the students Leveled up Learning, Leveled up Success.                                                            

Oak Hammock Ospreys Take Flight During Elementary PE

During Elementary PE at Oak Hammock K-8, Coach Branim guided our Ospreys through a series of exciting Winter Olympics–themed activities designed to build teamwork, sportsmanship, and overall physical fitness. Students rotated through speed skating, curling, and skiing challenges, each one encouraging them to stay active while proudly representing our Osprey spirit. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as students supported one another, celebrated successes, and embraced friendly competition. Many shared that it was the most fun they had ever experienced in PE, highlighting how meaningful and memorable the event was. The day truly showcased collaboration, effort, and joy in movement.

Oak Hammock Osprey Band delights Mets game crowd

The Oak Hammock Osprey Band, led by Director of Bands Amy Isenhower, performed the National Anthem at the New York Mets’ recent Spring Training game against the University of Michigan. This is the third time the group has performed at a Mets game as they are appreciated for their performances.
