Parkway Elementary student wins elementary category in oratory contest

Third grade Parkway Elementary student Caitia Oge won first place in the elementary school category for the Martin Luther King, Jr., oratorical contest held at Lincoln Park Academy recently. Caitia captivated the audience with an inspiring speech worthy of first place honors.

Parkway Elementary Science Students ENGAGE, EXPLORE, and EXPLAIN with Mr. Lewis!

Mr. Lewis’ Science classes were learning about invertebrates and the five groups of vertebrates. We learned most invertebrates are categorized as Arthropods, meaning segmented or jointed. Students explored once-living specimens, preserved in resin. After getting over the shock of holding an insect, crustacean, myriapod, or arachnid, students were able to identify the specimens using their expository journal notes.

Parkway Elementary kindergartners enjoy special visitor

Students in Rosanna Oswiecinski’s kindergarten class at Parkway Elementary had a special visitor during Literacy Week. Lance Corporal Kyle Lancaster of the U.S. Marines stationed in 29 Palms, California, returned from Afghanistan about a month ago. Students enjoyed Lance Corporal’s reading of “The American Flag” by Patricia Ryan Quirt. Afterward, students wrote about why they are proud to be an American.

Parkway Elementary hosts engaging Black History Month program

The Parkway Elementary School community enjoyed a remarkable Black History Program that included poems, skits and songs that reflected the contributions of African Americans to society.  The program was capped with Dr. Owen Roberts delivering a motivating presentation that encouraged Parkway students to “keep your goal in sight” by overcoming obstacles of misbehavior, skipping school, not completing homework and other behaviors that would prevent them from realizing their goals.  Pictured, from left, are students Hannah Troutman, Kiara Chiarolanzio,Logan Feldherr, and Veronica Jean.

Parkway Elementary Hosts a SEL Family Night!

Parkway Elementary, in collaboration with the SEL Department and the 21st Century Afterschool Program hosted a family SEL Night. Lauren Kappler, the district’s Social and Emotional Parent Educator visited and educated parents both in person and virtually. The main goal of the night was for families to learn about the five Social-Emotional competencies and what Social-Emotional Learning looks like at Parkway. Student-Led Conferences: Empowering Learners at Parkway Elementary! Parkway Elementary celebrated Student-Led Conferences, and what an incredible experience it was! Our students took center stage, confidently sharing their progress, goals, and achievements with families. These conferences weren’t just meetings—they were powerful moments of ownership and growth. Students Owning Their Learning Using clear learning targets and success criteria, students reflected on their strengths and areas for improvement. Parkway Elementary drummers present original rhythm at school board meeting

A group of student musicians representing Parkway Elementary School, with music teacher Beth Torresson, regaled the audience at the March 11, 2014, St. Lucie County School Board meeting with vocals and instrumental entertainment. Members of the drum ensemble, which consists of 12 members, grades 3-5, who auditioned to be in the group, have been working together since November, meeting every Monday and Thursday afternoon for 45 minutes in the music room to practice. Parkway Contributes Eco-Art to Oxbow’s Earth Day Festival

Parkway Elementary and their 21st Century Afterschool Program have been collaborating with Oxbow on a year-long recycling program. Students in grades 3-5 participated in Oxbow’s Watershed and Wildlife program. The students identified recycling as their school-wide stewardship project. This project culminated with all classrooms receiving a recycling bin. The 1st and 2nd grade 21st Century class decided to participate in the 2022 Earth Day Festival by creating a piece of Eco-Art!  They learned about where garbage goes and the importance of trying to reduce, reuse and recycle! “Parents: You Matter” Program Launches in St. Lucie County New Program Designed to Increase Parents’ Understanding of Drug and Alcohol Issues Today, the Title I Department of St. Lucie Public Schools in conjunction with local agencies announced the launch of a community education program designed to increase parents’ understanding and confidence in preventing and addressing drug and alcohol issues. Parents graduate from computer classes

Twenty eight parents from Title I Schools have finished a Basic Computer class hosted by Ft. Pierce Magnet School of the Arts and Title I. Parents attended classes twice a week for four weeks to learn basic computer skills and learn to use Microsoft Word. The goal of the program is to help parents to have the skills to help their child with their school work and to enhance the parent’s computer skills. Parents flock to multi-cultural feast at Mariposa Elementary

Second graders in Lisa Green’s class at Mariposa Elementary School invited parents and family members in for an annual Multi-Cultural Feast.  After students presented a reader’s theatre, recipes from across the globe were shared by all.  It provided the unique experience of trying foods from other cultures without actually going anywhere!  It was fantastic to see that so many parents were able to attend or send in authentic cuisine from their culture!Pictured, are Carmen Mendoza (William’s mother), William Biffle, and Ashley Mendez-Hernandez.

Parents engaged in special day at C. A. Moore Elementary

Parents rarely have the opportunity to sit with their student in class. Administrators and staff at C.A. Moore Elementary recently invited parents to Take Your Parent to School Day. The first Take Your Parent to School Day focused on reading. This time the parents were engaged in math activities spending 10 minutes in whole group instruction led by the teacher, 10 minutes in group work, and 10 minutes participating in a math game.
