On Sunday November 11, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. All cadets who attended demonstrated reverence and gratitude towards veterans and those we lost. Overall, the ceremony was a great learning experience for cadets, and students were moved by various speeches given by known members of our community. Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion Cadets attended the Treasure Coast Vietnam Veterans Association’s candlelight POW/MIA service on the 21st of September at the Veterans Memorial Park in Port St. Lucie.  Cadets paid reverence to Floridia Service Members who were taken prisoner of war and/or declared missing in action. Cadets who attended the ceremony felt moved and honored to participate and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Port Saint Lucie Rotary Club Brings Holiday Cheer!

Many, many thanks to the Rotary Club of Port Saint Lucie Noon Club. Angela Hayle, a Rotarian and business leader from ACCH Insurance Agency, along with Northport K-5 guidance counselor, Diane Crumpton, gathered children together at Northport to offer each child a special bag of Christmas gifts. The Rotary Club usually hosts an Annual Children’s Christmas Party. This year, due to Covid, the club made a stop to the Northport Media Center. The club serves 17 SLPS and 150 SLC children at the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the Port Saint Lucie Rotary Noon Club. ? ❤

Port Saint Lucie Jaguar Battalion Reads to First Graders

Everyone loves a good book. Six cadets from the Jaguar Battalion visited Bayshore Elementary to read to first grade classes. Each cadet was assigned to a class room. After finishing the book, the cadets asked the kids questions about the book. All of the cadets, Ashlee Seipel, Zachary St.John, Robert Hopkins, Jamie Triplett, Jaffrey Murankus and Allison Miakisz, said it was a great opportunity to read to the class and see the children smile.

PSLHS Homecoming Parade

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their pride at the Homecoming parade at Village Green Elementary. Marching in this parade is a tremendous honor and privilege for the Port Saint Lucie High Jaguar Battalion. The Battalion formation was led by the Jaguar’s Color Guard and was commanded by Cadet Staff Sergeant Tessa May carrying the National Flag. Port Saint Lucie High School Raider Meet

Several schools competed in this meet from all over Florida (29 teams in total and 10 schools). The competition consisted of five different events including 3-mile team run; tire flip; Raider fitness challenge whereby the teams moved through a course consisting of a 10-yard low crawl, a 40 yard 20-30lb sandbag carry, an obstacle to either go over or under, a speed agility maze, a 120lb object carried 50 feet, and a turnaround point to repeat the course in reverse; rope bridge; and cross country rescue including a litter carry of 110 lbs. Port Saint Lucie High School Pre-Season Football Game

The school’s first preseason football game of the year was held on August 21, 2016 at Port Saint Lucie High School. The Color Guard provided support before the game. The Color Guard cadets were: Allison Wilhoit, Hayley Pollard and Morgan Emerson, commanded by Tesa May. During the game, the Honor Guard cadets provided help with parking. The Port Saint Lucie Jaguar football team played against Olympic Heights High School from Boca Raton.  The Port Saint Lucie Football team won with a score of 41-0.

Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC and Staff Spread Joy

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion had the privilege to work with Guardians for New Futures and Communities Connected for Kids, to collect toys for kids during the holiday season. Port Saint Lucie High School staff and Jaguar Battalion cadets sponsored many kids to make sure they have a memorable holiday season. We were able to collect over 100 gifts this year.

Port Saint Lucie High School Football Color Guard

On Friday, September 25, Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard presented the colors at the first football game against John Carroll High School. With COVID-19 restrictions hindering a lot of our activities, the color guard was ecstatic to finally honor our country through a cadet led event. Commanding the Color Guard was National Flag Bearer Cadet Captain James Mikovsky accompanied by Cadet Captain Isaiah Hylton as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Captain Noah Cook as right Guard, and Cadet Captain Elijah Hylton as left Guard.

Port Saint Lucie High Jaguars Take Home the Gold

Port Saint Lucie High School’s Raider team competed in Fort Pierce Westwood’s Raider Competition against 21 teams from 10 schools. The competition had five events: 3 mile team run, Cross Country Rescue everyone takes a written first aid test and then as a team carry a 80-120 lb stretcher a mile while wearing three 30lb ruck sacks, fitness test where every team member carries two 30 lb sandbags over a 50 meters, 200 lb tire flip over a 100 meters and a Rope Bridge event. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider Team travelled to South Fork High School to compete in the Area III Raider meet state qualifier. They competed against 21 other schools from 6 counties in five physically demanding events. The events consisted of Cross Country Rescue (team had to answer questions on first aid, treat a simulated 120lb casualty with supplies from 30lb ruck sacks and then move the casualty and supplies one mile to the safe zone), 100 meter 300lb tire flip, fitness test moving ten 30lb sand bags around a 25 meter course carrying two at a time, … Read More

Pop-Up Museum at Village Green Environmental Studies School

Village Green Media Specialist, Janet Sievers is excited to be hosting the Mel Fisher Maritime Pop-Up Museum again this year. This year the Museum is titled Overcoming Outbreaks. The students can easily relate to the topic on Covid-19 as they have lived through it. They are learning how this is not the first outbreak in history. Through their Media Class, the other topics in the museum included Bubonic Plague, Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Smallpox, Tuberculosis, and Hog Cholera.

Pop-Up Museum at Village Green Environmental Studies School

Media Specialist, Janet Sievers is excited to host the Mel Fisher Maritime Pop-Up Museum in the Media Center at VGESS. The topic of this year’s museum is While the World Waited-Florida and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Students in 3rd-5th grade will read and discuss the eight panels of the museum while learning new vocabulary. Accompanying PowerPoints are also provided to provide students with real news footage from the events.

Pop-Up Museum at Village Green Elementary

This year’s Mel Fisher Pop-Up Museum’s theme is “Florida’s Hidden History.” Media Specialist, Mrs. Sievers, has put together the 8 panels that the Museum consists of for her students to enjoy over the past few weeks. Poetry Slam Auditions at FPW

Friday, January 8, 2016, FPW hosted its first Poetry Slam. This slam was an audition for the Louder Than A Bomb Poetry Slam Competition that will be held in April 2016 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The judges selected 10 students to compete. They will meet once a week after school to learn how to write and perform their poetry.

Poetry Alive Comes to Visit Morningside Elementary

Poetry Alive, an interactive program that puts actions to poetry and makes it “come alive”  for students K-5th grade was presented on Monday, February 23, 2015.  The students clapped, yelled, listened quietly and responded with gestures.  They have contests and other fun things for students at www.poetryalive.com
