Port St. Lucie High School culinary arts students Krista Ventola, right, and Kendrick Quintao and their classmates recently celebrated and served lunch to faculty with students and teachers who had the highest attendance on campus. The culinary students prepared spicy Italian chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese, yummy green beans and several other tasty dishes. To top it off, culinary instructor Chef Peter Suneson and culinary students served mouth watering desserts such as warm apple pie, lemon bars, and pumpkin pie.

Students from the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Spanish Honors Society joined forces on Saturday, April 19th, to celebrate Earth Day with a significant cleanup initiative at Stuart Beach. Demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship, the students arrived promptly at 9:00 AM and dedicated two hours to collecting litter and debris along the shoreline. The Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Air Rifle team wong first place at the American Legion Post 318 Invitational Air Rifle Match. Six four-person teams from three schools, including Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce Central, and Fort Pierce Westwood high schools competed for medals in each of the three positions: prone, standing, and kneeling. Cadets from the Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC program visited Palm Beach Atlantic University recently for their ROTC Leadership Day. The cadets participated in a scavenger hunt that helped them learn all about the campus, and leadership activities that were led by PBAU students. A PBAU administrator informed the students about enrollment criteria, grants, scholarships, and what PBAU has to offer them. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion took cadets for a tour of the Florida Institute of Technology campus recently. Master Sergeant David Beach, the ROTC instructor of the college, greeted the cadets with a tour of their ROTC facility and talked to the cadets about the opportunities ROTC has to offer the cadets. After the orientation, Mike Perry, the director of undergraduate admissions, guided and spoke to the cadets about the opportunities the college offers to the cadets after high school. The Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Raider Team finished off their season strong by “surviving” their annual Raider campout recently. The Battalion Raider team spent a tough night out at Camp Ah-Ba-Lu-Fa in Fort Pierce. Throughout the overnight campout, the Raiders exhibited their mastery of survival skills, shelters, trap and fire building that they have learned throughout the season. The raiders are grateful for the outstanding survival class taught by Amanda Thompson from the Oxbow Environmental Center. The team enjoyed the campout and learned many useful survival skills. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Color Guard performed a flag folding ceremony at Mariposa Elementary School recently. The Color Guard Team was led by Cadet Major Mason Propst presenting the U.S. flag with Cadet Byron Cruz presenting the state flag. Guarding the colors were Cadet Amanda Mabry and Cadet William Benagh. They presented and posted the colors, followed by a demonstration on the ceremonial folding of the national flag while explaining the meaning of each of the thirteen folds. The cadets of Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their support and paid their respects to missing and captured veterans at the annual POW/MIA ceremony hosted by the Chapter 556 of the Vietnam Veterans of America recently. The cadets formed an Honor Cordon at the entrance to the ceremony. Cadet Captain Devynn Rhodes, Cadet First Sergeant Arlene Mabry, and Cadet Corporal Ryan Culbreth participated in the ceremony by lighting the candles for the missing men and women from Desert Storm and Afghanistan. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Color Guard participated in the recent Northport K-8 School Black History Month ceremony. The Color Guard was led by Cadet Sergeant Major Robert Hopkins carrying the national flag. Cadet Second Lieutenant Cole Herndon carried the state flag, while cadet Second Lieutenant Taylor Chaney and Jaffrey Murankus posted as their guards. The school gave a wonderful welcome to the cadets, who gave a respectful presentation for the ceremony. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently participated in a Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. The cadets stood along the side of the park in formation to show respect and support for this ceremony. Several of the cadets, led by c/LTC Amanda Mabry, performed TAPS, which is a silent armed drill. Two cadets also participated in the presenting the colors. It was an honor for the Jaguar Battalion to participate in this year’s ceremony.

Port St. Lucie High School held a candlelight ceremony recently in honor of fellow student and ROTC cadet Hunter Henry, who tragically died earlier this month. Hundreds of Jaguars came together to share stories about Hunter and to help each other through this difficult time. Several of Hunter’s peers and friends said a few words about him to his family. It was a beautiful ceremony that touched everyone’s heart. The ceremony ended with Cole Herndon playing taps.

Several Jaguar Battalion cadets conducted an expanded Color Guard for the Honor Flight ceremony, which honors the many veterans in the St. Lucie community. The cadets of Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently helped sponsors of a triathlon event at Club Med in Port St. Lucie. The cadets arrived at 5 AM to prepare for the day’s event, and helped guide and motivate the participants throughout the course. The triathlon was divided into two competitions, the Olympic and the Sprint.
