Port St. Lucie High Jaguar Raiders survive the final test

 The Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Raider Team finished the season strong by “surviving” the recent  annual Raider campout.  The Jaguar Battalion Raider team spent a hardy night out at Camp Ah-Ba-Lu-Fa in Fort Pierce.  Throughout the over night campout, the Raiders exhibited their mastery of survival sills.  On the first day, the primary concentration was on shelters and fire building. With the use of their Army survival books, the Raiders learned about the different types of fires and the easiest ways to build them. Port St. Lucie High Jaguar color guard honors veterans

Some of the favorite ceremonies for the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar cadet color guard in which to participate are those that honor veterans. Recently, four Jaguar cadets conducted a color guard ceremony at the Ballantrae Yacht Club in Club Med honoring Staff Sergeant John Quincy Adams, a veteran injured in Iraq. The color guard, led by cadet Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Jacobson, consisted of cadet Captain Alex Seipel, cadet Captain Ryan Monday, and cadet Colonel Diamond Salazar. The cadets executed flawlessly and received numerous words of encouragement and appreciation from the spectators.

Port St. Lucie High Jaguar cadets win essay contest

 Thanks to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8058, students had the opportunity to enter an essay contest and win cash prizes. Students who enter can win at various levels, excel to the national competition, and possibly win $30,000 and a free trip to Washington D.C.  Voice of Democracy is the theme of these essays. The Jaguar Battalion Color Guard presented the colors at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) ceremony recently. The team that presented the colors consisted of cadet Captain Amanda Mabry, cadet Colonel Diamond Salazar, cadet First Lieutenant Devynn Rhodes, cadet Sergeant First Class Sebrina Saladeen, and cadet Private First Class Austin Conkling. The four cadets demonstrated perfection with an outstanding presentation of the flags. Port St. Lucie High Jaguar cadets compete for Outstanding Cadet honor

 The Port St. Lucie High School Junior ROTC Jaguar Battalion recently held the third Outstanding Cadet Board of the Year. The board is a competition between cadets on two levels. The first consists of junior cadets in their first year of JROTC. The second level contains senior cadets who have been in the program for two to four years. Two winners are selected: one from the junior cadets and one from the senior cadets. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Drill Team recently participated with 15 other schools in the Area III Drill Meet at Fort Pierce Central High School for the opportunity to advance to state level competition, and four Jaguar teams were successful. The Male Armed Platoon, commanded by cadet Second Lieutenant Jeremy Dardon, and Male Armed Squad, commanded by cadet First Lieutenant Gerard Delgado, placed first in their respective categories. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion helped provide a warm welcome to the students, alumni, and friends of Port St. Lucie High School during homecoming events.  The parade began at Village Green Environmental Studies School and proceeded along Lennard Road to Port St. Lucie High School. The Jaguar Battalion was a distinguished group in the parade. The battalion’s Color Guard, consisting of cadet Second Lieutenant Jeremy Dardon, cadet Sergeant First Class Sebrina Saladeen, cadet Sergeant First Class Kyle Schenck, and cadet Second Lieutenant Andrew Miller, won first place for the parade.

Port St. Lucie High Jaguar battalion retires flags

The Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony as its annual Service Learning Project. The service learning is similar to community service, but the difference between the two is that after the service learning project, a reflection is done. This year, the Jaguar Battalion retired unserviceable flags. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell attended this ceremony, his first ceremony at a retirement of the flags. The Jaguar Battalion of Port St. Lucie High School participated in the annual parade honoring one of America’s greatest civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Jaguar Battalion received many accolades from the spectators during the event. The battalion was led by Battalion Commander Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Mabry, followed by the battalion Color Guard, the battalion staff and the three companies with their professionalism. Through the dedication of the cadets and the leadership of the senior cadets, the Jaguar Battalion remained loud and proud throughout the parade. Pictured are the cadets during the parade.

Four Port St. Lucie High School medical academy students in the Health Occupations Students of America organization placed in regional competition and have advanced to state competition to be held April 4-7 in Orlando. The Florida History Fair awarded Port St. Lucie High School history fair school coordinator and 10th-grade world history teacher Valerie Arendas with the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award, Senior Division, for her many years of dedication to National History Day activities at her school. The Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award recognizes outstanding National History Day educators. Each state selects a junior and senior-division recipient, who receive a $500 cash prize. Port St. Lucie High School (PSLHS) 2012 graduate Diamond Salazer was recognized at the July 31, 2012, St. Lucie County School Board meeting for her outstanding performance during the national SkillsUSA career and technical education competition this past school year. She was awarded by the Florida Masonry Apprentice and Educational Foundation. Port St. Lucie High Geometry Students Play Capture the Flag to Prepare for Unit Assessment

Mrs. Phillips’ Geometry students are preparing for their Unit 1 Assessment with a Capture the Flag game! Groups started with 5 different colored flags and worked to solve problems within their groups. Students had their answers checked and when correct, they could steal another team’s flag. In the end, students were surprised to find each flag had a different value and those with a lot of blue or orange flags lost points! Fun & learning were had by all!  

Port St. Lucie High Freshmen Open House, JROTC and New Cadets

On Wednesday August 8, 2018, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion aided the incoming freshmen at open house, the school’s first event. The cadets of JROTC helped incoming students with finding their classes and enrolled many new cadets into the program. Fifty new eager cadets were assigned that day. Cadets working this event felt encouraged to reach out to young motivated students who want to better themselves and their community.
