Area business leaders recently joined educators at the Skills Trade Advisory Council meeting to provide valuable insights into the skills needed for today’s workforce. Partners representing a variety of industries toured classrooms focused on Building Construction Technology, Automotive, and Technical Design.
The focus of the visit was to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring students graduate with the practical skills employers demand. Business partners emphasized the importance of not only technical proficiency but also crucial soft skills. Recurring themes included the need for punctuality, responsible phone usage, a strong willingness to learn, a keen awareness of safety protocols, a positive and professional attitude, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to contribute effectively within a team environment.
The classroom visits provided a unique opportunity for partners to interact directly with faculty, offering real-world perspectives on industry expectations. Educators will use the feedback to refine curriculum and ensure students are well-prepared for successful careers. Dr. Belgraves expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration stating “The partnership with local businesses is essential to the success of our programs. By working together, we can equip our students with the skills they need to thrive in the local economy.” The Skills Trade Advisory Council meeting highlighted the ongoing commitment of local businesses and educational institutions to develop a robust and skilled workforce here on the Treasure Coast.
