Allied Health Programs Unite the Community with Blood Drive

Students from all over the county work with One Blood for their blood drive donation.  The majority of the schools utilize their Allied Health programs to host this voluntary event for their campus.  Just one blood donation can save up to three lives. Virtual Fun with Literacy Week!

To celebrate literacy at Mosaic Digital Academy, 5th-grade students in Mrs. Mimnaugh’s class put “Hats on for Reading”, while 2nd graders in Mrs. Lankow’s class dressed up as their favorite word for “Vocabulary Day”. Students also participated in read-aloud sessions and brought out the “Virtual Red Carpet”, wearing red in class to be “Well Read”. Awesome job Owls! #virtualfun #literacyweek

Central’s Culinary Students Tour IRSC Hospitality and Tourism

Indian River State College Culinary Institute and Hospitality and Tourism Program hosted an educational tour for FPC’s Culinary students.  During the visit, the students were able to participate in the youtube simulcast of the No Vacancy Live podcast with Glenn Haussman and Anthony Melchiorri; and the guest was Greg Juceam, the President and CEO of Extended Stay America. It was an interesting day where students continued to build rapport with IRSC Professors, toured the IRSC Culinary Institute, met current IRSC students and FPC alumni, were served a delicious lunch, and were exposed to exciting aspects of the Hospitality industry. Centennial High Culinary Arts get Rachel Ray Grow Grant

Congratulations to Chef Chris Balachak, St. Lucie West Centennial High Culinary Arts Instructor, and her students who received a Rachel Ray $5,000 Grow Grant to purchase new equipment shelving, hand tool bins, and temperature/moisture resistant shelving.  In addition, the St. Lucie Education Foundation matched the $5,000 awarded by Rachel Ray so they have another $5,000 to spend on upgrades to their catering facility.  Go Eagles!

Middle School Students STEM and Career & Technical Education- Energy & the Environment with Mr. Fess (Northport K8)

Sixth grade students in Mr. Fess’ STEM class created working wind-turbines out of old toy motors as part of their “Energy & the Environment” curriculum.  All students designed, created, tested, and improved their own creations. Students rated their electricity production using a multimeter and made changes to their builds to improve their efficiency. Giselle Cisneros-Arana Awarded Concertmaster of the All State Concert Orchestra

Lincoln Park Academy Orchestra is proud to announce that violinist Giselle Arana-Cisneros, grade 9, was recently awarded Concertmaster of the Florida Orchestra Association All State Concert Orchestra in January!  The Florida Music Education Conference was held in Tampa on January 11-14 and featured All State performing groups from various different areas of music performance. Giselle auditioned for her placement and was awarded this honor from 18 first violins.  This talented musician is not only in orchestra but in chorus as well and has performed with many area community orchestras including the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony.

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy MOA Students Work to Save Marine Life

Fort Pierce Westwood’s MOA AICE Marine 1 students got an opportunity to learn about FAU Harbor Branch’s Marine Mammal Research and Conservation Program (MMRC). The mission of this program is to “Protect Wild Dolphins and Whales” through conservation, stranding response, research, collaboration, and education. Mr. Steve Burton, Director of Marine Mammal Stranding and Population Assessment at FAU’s Harbor Branch, along with his team, gave a hands-on demonstration to the students about the Marine Mammal Ambulance Transport System and rescue operations and answered all their questions. Students got to act as marine dolphins and worked in teams to learn rescue operations.

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Cadets Attend Scholarship Fundraiser Ball

Representatives from the FPWA Army JROTC Program attended the Annual Treasure Coast Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fundraiser Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. The ball is held as a fundraiser event to benefit Treasure Coast JROTC Programs by building a growth-focused scholarship fund that is awarded at the end of each school year. Our local MOAA chapter gives the proceeds of the event to 8 High School JROTC Programs in Martin and St Lucie county.
