C.S.I. visits Treasure Coast High’s Criminal Justice Classes

Students from Mr. Rios’ Criminal Justice classes participated in a mock crime scene investigation.  The demonstration was set up by the Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Crime Scene Investigation Team.  Students observed the process from securing the scene to the physical collection of evidence.  This mock investigation provided hands-on opportunities for all of the students.

Career and Technical Education – EDC Bus Tour

Career and Technical Education (CTE) collaborated with the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County (EDC), and Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association to host the Fall School Guidance Counselor’s Bus Tour.  This tour offered St. Lucie Public School’s Guidance Counselors, Graduation Coaches, and CTE Educators the opportunity to hear from local businesses and create a pipeline for their students interested in manufacturing, technical design, and culinary.  Stops on the tour included Builders FirstSource, Indian River Select, Sunshine Kitchen, Aviator College, and Aquaco to get a better sense of expectations and demand for potential employees in the industry.    

CTE visits Embry-Riddle for Gaetz Aerospace Leadership Conference

The Career and Technical Education department traveled to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to attend the Gaetz Aerospace Institute’s District and School Leadership Conference.  Our very own Professor of Aerospace Technologies at Fort Pierce Central High School, Dr. Bispham, was one of the panelists for the conference.  Dr. Bispham was discussed the growing demand for the sUAS certification, and took students to the next level by working on drone security projects!

Education Foundation of St. Lucie County

Thom Jones, Executive Director of the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County, provided an end-of-year update to the School Board. The St. Lucie County Education Foundation was founded in 1990 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose purpose is to support the teachers and students of the St. Lucie County School District through programs not funded by tax revenue.

Martha Taylor – Job Coach SLPS Martha was nominated for her work with Student Perks, a coffee cart that is at the SLC Board of County Commissioners Building as well as at the Port St. Lucie City Hall Building. She has worked tirelessly to provide this wonderful opportunity for the students to learn job skills.  Taylor has worked closely with the schools, students, county administrators and commissioners to make this enterprise happen.  She continues to look for new opportunities for the students to gain the experience they need to be gainfully employed once they graduate from high school. Partnership with School Board Celebrated

Pete Tesch and Jill Marasa from Economic Development Council (EDC), Rich Kolleda from Workforce Readiness Taskforce (WRT), and Brian Bauer from CareerSource Research Coast thanked the School Board for supporting this summer’s Boot Camps and acknowledged the positive partnership that they have with SLPS. Ready to Work Boot Camps were established at the request of manufacturers and trades seeking employees. The WRT was started in 2015 as a result of the EDC’s 2015-2020 Strategic Plan to explore workforce readiness and education improvements that has grown to 30 plus regional stakeholders.

Safety Fest 2019

Friends, families, businesses, and organizations came together on Saturday, April 27th for a day of fun, food, festivities, and demonstrations at the 5th Annual Safety Fest held at the Digital Domain Stadium in Port St. Lucie. The Ft. Pierce Central High School JROTC Color Guard and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Band opened the event by presenting the Colors and playing the National Anthem. St. Lucie Public Schools was represented by Transportation, FDLRS, Media Services, Magnet School Programs, and General Programs of Study.

The Southport Middle School Cafe staff teamed up with art teacher Brenda Pecora and attendance clerk Linda Nelson in a race to make National School Breakfast Week an enjoyable time for everyone at school. Community Comes Together for Southport Middle School Career Fair

The Southport Middle School Guidance Department held a Career Fair for our seventh and eighth grade students to support them in career exploration. The event tied into the Naviance classroom lessons that counselors facilitate, which promotes career awareness and helps students develop a deeper understanding of their talents, skills, and personality traits. The community really came through for this event, with professionals from a wide variety of careers for students to meet and greet. Maddy Polina, a successful senior at the St. Lucie Virtual School, has unique skills and talents.
