St. Lucie Public Schools Exceptional Student Education District Advisory Council will meet on Monday, October 22, 2018, to discuss social/emotional learning. The meeting is scheduled to take place at Virginia College in Fort Pierce from 9 AM to 10:30 AM.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Five leaders from around the country have been appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board to serve four-year terms, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced today. This year’s Governing Board appointees include four new members and one re-appointed member—the Board’s current Vice Chair Tonya Matthews. The Jazz Band from Treasure Coast High School and musicians from Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition served as the “Clinic Band” for a professional development offered to area band directors.  The focus was on Rhythm Sections and Jazz Bands. National Custodial Workers Day 2018 is Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in the USA. National Custodial Workers Day is sometimes referred to as National Custodial Workers Recognition Day or National Custodian Appreciation Day,  but they do all aim for the same thing — thank our custodial workers for what they do every day. We appreciate the duties and responsibilities fulfilled by our custodial teams. The results of their work, namely clean and safe environments, are important and indeed recognizable. Thank you!

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) was started in 2002 as a pilot program through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in four states with the purpose of introducing school children to fresh fruits and vegetables. The FFVP was made a permanent grant program nationwide in 2008 and is funded through the Farm Bill. Trees are cleared, earth is leveled, and a footprint of the new St. Lucie Public Schools District Office is taking shape. Amid the progress, District Office staff and Economic Development Council representatives participated in an official groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Economic Development Council President Pete Tesch and Superintendent E. Wayne Gent spoke about the District’s progress and innovation just before they were joined by School Board Members who picked up shovels and donned construction hats for the official groundbreaking ceremony.

This year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake proved to be inviting and exciting for participants in St. Lucie County as school teams and SLPS departments took to the lanes with other community organizations. The annual fundraiser is more than just bowling.  “It’s about the kids and raising money to support the mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters!”  

The key to St. Lucie Public Schools’ success is teamwork.  Caring and committed adults work with a united purpose — to support each child every day to ensure they graduate from safe and caring schools, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and desire to succeed.
