St. Lucie Public Schools is a proud sponsor for Gracepacks this Holiday season! Please consider donating food items to this organization in support of the weekend food backpack program. With your support and generosity, the goal this Holiday season is to provide over 1,000 pounds of food items! Food collections will run through December 12th. The District will coordinate donation pick-up from each participating school/department.  

Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful and the City of Port St. Lucie in partnership with several City departments (Communications Department, Neighborhood Services Department, the Port St. Lucie Police Department, and the Utilities Department), Waste Pro, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and St. Lucie Public Schools kicked off the Buddy Bench project! Three local schools are participating in this initial phase: Morningside Elementary, Oak Hammock and West Gate K-8 Elementary. Celebrate Literacy Week: January 28 – February 1, 2019 The Just Read, Florida! On December 8 from 8 am – noon, New Horizons is hosting a FREE all-you-can-eat breakfast at Mets Stadium/First Data Field for the children of St. Lucie County and surrounding areas. Exciting projects are underway at St. Lucie County’s Airport. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and others participated in a groundbreaking event for the MRO (Maintenance, Rehab, and Overhaul) Hangar.  This facility will have the capability to house full-size jetliners for maintenance and overhaul — very positive for our county and for students working toward aligned industry certifications. The news came at the 7th annual IN TOUCH Excellence Awards Gala. November 12-18, 2018 is designated as National School Psychology Awareness Week. This week serves to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help students thrive in school. Our school psychologists are all actively involved in problem solving meetings at schools, conducting evaluations, assisting in implementing our mental health initiative, addressing suicide prevention and supporting our schools with their Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports initiatives. St. Lucie Public Schools partnered with Main Street Fort Pierce to connect downtown Fort Pierce businesses to the high and middle school culinary programs.  In mid-October, nine culinary teachers toured eight restaurants; Importico Bakery, Uncle Carlo’s Gelato, Taco Dive, 2nd Street Bistro, Subway, Sunrise City Café, The Bradford and the Cake Lady.  The whirlwind tour started at 3 PM with kitchen tours, sampling flagship dishes, historical tidbits, and moving on to the next stop.  The group was thrilled to see Fort Pierce Central and Fort Pierce Westwood culinary graduates in action —  one as hostess and one as restaurant owner!  … Read More

In October, Fort Pierce Westwood Agriscience hosted 22 Manatee Vet Prep 8th grade students and parents.  The group was treated to a tour and demonstration at the Agriscience facility then on to Veterinary Assisting where several Manatee alumni were seen leading hands-on activities.  The Manatee 8th graders were engaged and appreciated seeing the opportunities Westwood offers its students.

Early in November, approximately 300 St. Lucie Public Schools students attended Indian River State College’s Great Explorations.  Each student was able to focus on an area of interest then attend program tours, presentations, and hands-on activities.  Many set plans and goals for their future careers! .

We’re growing our team —  spread the word!  St. Lucie Public Schools will host a job fair for teachers and paraprofessionals on December 1st in the gymnasium of St. Lucie West K-8 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. On October 25, 2018, roughly 280 SLPS seniors from across the entire district attended State of the Jobs conference (SOJC). Students learned about various aspects of Skilled Trades, Manufacturing and Healthcare. The three career fields were identified in the Skills Gap Analysis as critical areas in need of workers. Students learned about each career path and were provided first-hand information within each pathway. Students engaged with vendors on career opportunities and learned about post-secondary education options.
