Over 600 St. Lucie Public Schools students received food, clothing, and supplies from generous members of the Elks Lodge #1520 in Fort Pierce. The December 12th delivery schedule started out promising to serve 3 schools, but as donations poured in, the number of schools quickly grew to 13. This growth mirrors the growth in the number of students who benefit from the Elks Backpack Program which supports students throughout the year.    

St. Lucie Public Schools staff visit with the parents of English Learners who attend the English Learning Center at Weatherbee Elementary. The District hosts four different locations through the Title III Program. Parents shared traditional holiday food. They were also serenaded by one of our parents. Norma Miller is the dedicated site manager for this center .

Barnes & Noble of Jensen Beach chose the McKinney Vento Homeless program to be the recipient of the annual Holiday Book Drive this year. In-store customers have purchased over 3,000 new books so far to donate to the program. Every student enrolled in the program received a holiday gift bag that included two brand new books, new socks, school supplies, a hygiene kit, and coloring books for the younger students. Geneva Financial donated over 500 coloring books and crayons, the Treasure Coast Food Bank donated the hygiene items for the kits, and Bombas socks donated over 2,000 pairs of new … Read More

Winter Break begins on Monday, December 24th. 12 Month employees return on Wednesday, January 2nd. Monday, January 7th is a Workday for faculty and staff. Students and staff will resume a regular schedule on Tuesday, January 8th. St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) is designated as a silver-level Florida Healthy School District for a second consecutive term. The Florida Partnership for Healthy Schools, Florida Action for Healthy Kids, Florida Association of District School Superintendents, and Florida Healthy Kids Corporation recognized the District’s honor during the December School Board Meeting. St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) is proud to announce the launch of new science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) and emerging technology programs and makerspaces using LEGO Education solutions, which include curriculum and professional development, in two of the district’s new magnet schools: Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) and Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET). The School Board of St. Lucie County and all bargaining units have reached agreements regarding salary compensation for the 2018-2019 school year. Returning CTA employees will receive an $850 retention supplement.  Their retro portion of this $850 (representing 7/1/18 through current) will be distributed by 12/19/18 and should equal approximately half of the negotiated supplement amount.  The remaining negotiated supplement balance will be paid in equal installments over the remaining paychecks for 2018-2019. St. Lucie County licensed teen drivers can improve their defensive driving skills  by taking the “Teen Driver Challenge” on January 24 and 26, according to Sheriff Ken  J. Mascara. “The number one killer of American teenagers is car crashes,” said Sheriff Mascara. “That is why the Sheriffs of Florida developed the Teen Driver Challenge Program.” The course will take place Thursday, January 24 with a classroom session 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, located at 4700 West Midway Rd. WPBF Meteorologist Britley Ritz did it again! She brought a storm of excitement to students at St. Lucie West K-8 during a special weather lesson.  Britley  helped students understand weather systems and answered the many interesting questions ranging from what it takes to be a meteorologist to detailed inquiries about hurricanes.
