The community is invited to enjoy a showcase of hundreds of science projects created by some of our district’s youngest budding scientists in kindergarten through fifth grade at the 2012 St. Lucie Public Schools Science Showcase on Saturday, May 19 from 10 AM to 3 PM at Southern Oaks Middle School, located at 5500 N. E. St. James Drive, Port St. Lucie. The event is central to the school district’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative and an opportunity for the community to appreciate the STEM resources available in St. Lucie Public Schools.

This free community event will also feature exhibitors from local science institutions and organizations, as well as STEM-related high school academies, including Treasure Coast Wildlife, Indian River State College, Savannas Preserve State Park, Florida Fish and Wildlife, Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Marine and Oceanographic Academy at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, and Fort Pierce Central High School’s Aeronautical Aviation Academy affiliated with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

Families will be engaged with hands-on science activities, live animal shows, and interactive displays.  Fun items such as Frisbees and water bottles will be given away, and concessions will be available for purchase.
