This year’s inaugural Marching Band Showcase was a spectacular event that highlighted the talents and skills of students and directors.  Fans crowded Lawnwood Stadium on Saturday evening (October 14) for an exciting evening of music as middle school and high school marching bands performed selections independently and (in a special performance) together under the direction of special guest conductor Dr. Kevin G. St. Lucie Public Schools is planning a celebration to honor National Unity Day on October 25th. On this day, we are asking everyone to wear ORANGE to send a message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

During the October School Board meeting President of the Education Foundation Thom Jones launched “Working Together for Success,”  the Education Foundation’s theme to support all of the advances recently made by the School District in ranking and graduation rates. Jones shared the fact that The Foundation had obtained Resolutions of support from the City of Fort Pierce, the City of Port St. Lucie, and St. Lucie County to support naming the first week of November (1-7), 2017, as “Public Education Week” in recognition of the School District’s advances.

Dr. Rafael Sanchez, Director of Human Resources for St. Lucie Public Schools, was recognized by Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and School Board Members for his distinguished recognition and receipt of the Capella University Business Leaders Award. Recipients of this leadership honor are stand-outs among their peers as demonstrated by their ambition, academic excellence, and comprehensive understanding of the current business environment. In addition, as a result of earning this distinction, Sanchez has the opportunity to ring the closing bell for NASDAQ in New York City on October 25, 2017.

Jeanne Ziemba, principal of St. Lucie Public School’s Mosaic Digital Academy, was recognized at the October Board meeting for being named as Florida’s Distance Learning Association’s Innovative Leader in Distance Learning: K-12 award recipient. This award is established to recognize excellence and innovation in using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Mosaic Digital Academy is a K-12 virtual school that provides a progressive choice for families, providing expanded curriculum choice for anytime, anywhere learning.

National Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign and is held during the month of October. This campaign unites communities around the world to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. Over the years it has grown from an initial week-long event to a worldwide effort with thousands of individuals participating in multiple activities throughout the month. Sebastian Suarez was joined by his family and administrators from Lincoln Park Academy as Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and School Board Members recognized him for earning his the Congressional Award Gold Medal.  Established into law in 1979, the Congressional Award was created to honor, encourage, and inspire America’s youth. To earn the Gold Medal, Suarez, a senior, completed 400 hours of Voluntary Public Service, 200 hours of Personal Development, and 200 hours of Physical Fitness. The sixth annual Giving Concert is planned for October 25th at Lincoln Park Academy in the auditorium located at 1806 Avenue I in Fort Pierce.
