Palm Pointe K-8 Kids Heart Challenge

The Kids Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart) event was held last Friday, February 15th at Palm Pointe K-8.  Coach Piscopo and Coach Santoro were amazing volunteers and do so much to support the American Heart Association mission. This year, the students raised $4,431 to help further the mission of the AHA.  Great work!

Number of PBIS Model Schools Continues to Grow

3rd Annual HBCU/HSI College Fair

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) continues to bring opportunities to students for college and career success. On January 24, the school district hosted 18 historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) and Hispanic serving institutions (HSI) at the 3rd Annual HBCU/HSI College Fair. CTE Students Tour Keiser University

St. Lucie Public Schools Criminal Justice students from Fort Pierce Westwood High School, Fort Pierce Central High School, St. Lucie West Centennial High School, and Treasure Coast High School were invited to Keiser University.  Students were afforded the opportunity to partake in guided tours, hands-on demonstrations, and an informational session on college scholarships and planning.  Thank you Keiser University for providing this experience to our students!

CTE Student Visit Federal Courtroom

Students from Fort Pierce Westwood High School, Performance Based Academy, and Treasure Coast High School attended a Civil Discourse and Teen Decision Making session at the Federal Courthouse.  U.S. Magistrate Judge Maynard and U.S. District Court Judge Rosenberg invited the students to this unique opportunity to have a Federal Courtroom tour and simulation of a civil case.  The students enjoyed this special experience!

Parents of high school students are often concerned about the cost of college. Dual Enrollment at Indian River State College (IRSC) provides an opportunity for high school students to begin work on their college degree for free while finishing high school, saving time and thousands of dollars in college tuition. Courses such as College Algebra and English Composition, which cost approximately $600 at a state university can be completed with no tuition charge. FK Sweet Hosts Superintendent Gent at SAC Meeting

Frances K. Sweet Magnet School was pleased to host Mr. E. Wayne Gent at our School Advisory Council Meeting on February 12, 2019.  Parents, teachers, students, staff, and community members received important information regarding the proposed referendum directly from our Superintendent.  They had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. After the meeting, Mr. Gent visited the music suite and performed a solo piano exhibition that was impressive to students and educators alike!  Thank you Mr. Gent for your belief in our students, teachers, and community.

Growing CTE Program Holds Bus Tours to Visit Local Businesses

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) department collaborated with the Economic Development Council, Treasure Coast Manufacturer’s Association, and Treasure Coast Builder’s Association to host the School Counselor Bus Tour.  The bus tours included CTE teachers, guidance counselors, and graduation coaches from our high schools, who toured various businesses in our county including: Ross Mixing, Dragonfly Graphics, St. Lucie Battery and Tire, Radical Cosmetics, and Premier Fabricators.  This event creates awareness of the employment opportunities available to our students and graduating seniors, as we work to close the skills gap.

Number of PBIS Model Schools Increases

St. Lucie Public Schools has 25 PBIS Model Schools for the 2017-2018 School Year.   This great honor truly shows that our schools have worked tirelessly to address the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support for their students and have embraced the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Framework.  We are also very pleased that our staff continues to provide on-going support to schools through coaching and technical assistance.  A special thank you to Robert O’Neill for his continued leadership with this project and for continuing to serve as the liaison with the University of South Florida.
