Town Hall Meetings Scheduled

Join Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office for Town Hall Meetings scheduled at high schools around the district.  The purpose of these meetings is to inform the public about the referendum scheduled for mail-in vote on April 3, 2019.  Superintendent Gent will share a brief presentation and afterwards the floor will be open to the public for questions.

FPCHS Empty Bowls Project

Fort Pierce Central High School art students and culinary students are working together to bring awareness to a community problem.  For $15 anyone can purchase a bowl, fill it with fresh hot soup prepared by the school’s culinary arts students and when they are done eating, the bowl goes home with them as a symbol of all the empty bowls in the community. The bowls will be on sale at the Fort Pierce Farmers Market on Saturday, March 16th.  All proceeds benefit the Treasure Coast Food Bank. Parkway Students Sample Sweet Potatoes

Students at Parkway Elementary got to sample Sweet Potato Fries on Thursday during lunch. Students learned where sweet potatoes are grown, how fries are made from them, and the surprising health benefits they provide!

Culinary Cook-Off

Join us for the 2nd Annual Student Culinary Cook-Off, a collaboration of Child Nutrition Services and the Career and Technical Education Culinary Arts Program.  The purpose of the event is for our student chefs in the Middle School and High School Culinary Arts Program to create enticing entrees that their peers would enjoy while following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program.  The winning entrée will be placed on the menu for the 2019-2020 school year. SLPS High Schools Featured in Aero Newsletter

Two of our area high schools were featured in the Spring 2019 e-newsletter for Gaetz Aerospace Institute and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  See the articles and featured photos below! School safety is a concern not only for parents, teachers, administrators, but also for students that attend school. When local law enforcement asked students to assist them in a school safety plan, they provided some high tech solutions. Schools Create a “Buddy Bench”

Later this spring, three Saint Lucie Public Schools: Morningside Elementary, Oak Hammock K-8, and West Gate K-8 will each receive a Buddy Bench. A Buddy Bench is anti-bullying, and keeps plastic out of the landfill!  It’s a brightly colored bench made from recycled plastic caps that’s also a ‘safe space’ – signaling when a child has a need, and teaches all of the children about the environment. Movies in the Fort

On various Thursday and Friday nights from January to May, parks in local neighborhoods will host FREE outdoor movies featuring today’s blockbusters and classic family favorites. Movies in the Fort gives residents in all parts of the city an opportunity to engage with their neighbors and community. Fort Pierce is committed to increasing access to family-friendly cultural opportunities, and this new movie series is a perfect example of this work. All movies begin at dusk. TCHS Air Force JROTC March

On March 2 and 3, 2019, the Treasure Coast High School Air Force JROTC will be conducting a 14 mile walk to raise awareness of those who survived and those who gave their lives in WWII during the fight for control of the Philippines. Community Comes Together for Southport Middle School Career Fair

The Southport Middle School Guidance Department held a Career Fair for our seventh and eighth grade students to support them in career exploration. The event tied into the Naviance classroom lessons that counselors facilitate, which promotes career awareness and helps students develop a deeper understanding of their talents, skills, and personality traits. The community really came through for this event, with professionals from a wide variety of careers for students to meet and greet. Annual Kickin’ It 5K Run/Walk

Please see the attached flier for the annual Kickin’ It 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Andrew Schmeer Foundation. The Andrew Schmeer Foundation honors the memory of Andrew Schmeer who, on September 8, 2014, was tragically killed in a car accident. Funds raised help to recognize well-rounded students along the Treasure Coast by providing college scholarships for those in need. Community Clean Up Day

Farm to Table at FPWHS

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Agriculture program is growing a beautiful crop of cabbage. The cabbage will be put on the lunch lines in the cafeterias for students to taste and have a part of their meals.
