Students of West Gate K-8 Give Special Performance

Under the direction of Zachary Maes, the students from West Gate K-8 School chorus gave a special performance during the February 12, 2019 School Board Meeting. The students opened the meeting with a performance that was a treat for everyone in attendance.

STAR Award Recipient

The STAR Program focuses on recognizing stellar service from our employees for their behaviors, skills and actions that correlate with the District’s core values. Alberto Diaz is an electrician for the District that impressed Bayshore Elementary by his professionalism and attention to detail. The school’s principal called and wrote to express their sincere appreciation for making certain that all systems were go and all equipment was working as it should to ensure safe and caring learning environments for students and staff.  Thank you for your service!

Garber Buick GMC Supports St. Lucie Public Schools

St. Lucie Public Schools would like to thank Steve Ward, Executive General Manager, and Sheila Cash, Office Administrator for their support of our schools over the last few years. With the Garber Drive for Education Fundraiser, nearly $40,000 has been raised for our schools to support extracurricular programs, performing art competitions, and other academic endeavors.

Graduation Rates at a Historic High

All high schools were recognized at the School Board meeting on February 12, 2019 to celebrate the increasing graduation rates among all schools. The District is proud to have an overall graduation rate of 91.8%, an increase over last school year.  Congratulations to our high schools! Piano Donated to Port St. Lucie High School

Mr. Ocampo and Port St. Lucie High School were recently the recipients of a beautiful grand piano appraised at over $8,000. The piano was gifted to the school by Angela DiSomone, 89, courtesy of her brother, the piano’s owner, Joseph Falotico, 96.  The labor of moving the large instrument was donated by Arnoff Moving and Storage.  The students will enjoy this grand donation for many years to come!

Education’s Shining Stars Announced

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — In a live broadcast from Lincoln Park Academy on Saturday, February 9, 2019, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) and the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County announced this year’s line-up of educational superstars. Authentic Experiences

Fort Pierce Westwood High School and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Criminal Justice students attended the District Court of Appeals Oral Arguments hosted by Indian River State College.  This event afforded the students the opportunity to hear cases and participate in a question and answer segment with the judges.

Hawley Receives Honor

Debbie Hawley, Chairman of the St. Lucie County School Board, was honored at this month’s Chamber of Commerce Ladies Luncheon.  Ms. Hawley is a staunch advocate for children and public education.  As a three-term School Board member, Chief Operating Officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and involved community member, she is a catalyst for the acceleration of literacy, expansion of mental health services, and improvements in safety and security. Congratulations, Ms. Hawley!

Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie Hosts Vero Beach Film Festival Founder

Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) students learned the history of the Vero Beach Film Festival (VBFF) as well as how they may be the next scholarship prize winner. Mr. Nunez’s 7th grade science class at Manatee Academy created a recipe they like to call “The Kohlrabi Salsa” using fresh ingredients from a garden right outside their classroom! The ingredients include kohlrabi, cilantro, yellow pear tomatoes, and green onion. Way to go!
