The teachers visited restaurants in Tradition including PGA Golf Club, Longhorn Steakhouse, HopCat, The Great Greek, Panera, and Pop Stroke. The Krawls establish collaboration and partnerships to enhance job opportunities and enrich classrooms with relevant industry needs. Along the way, they saw several St. Lucie Public Schools Culinary graduates working in the local restaurants. We are very poud of our culinary students!
This past weekend, the SLPS Medici Project held its first “Beginning Band A Palooza” at Ft. Pierce Central H.S. 165 beginning band students from APK8, CAST, SGAET, SOMS, SPM, WGK8, PPREK8, MAK8, SLWK8 participated in a group workshop to learn how to put their instruments together, and learn to make their first note on their instruments! High school directors and their leadership students from FPC, TCHS, PSL, and FPWA lead the workshops and helped each musician get off to a successful start. Thank you to Music Man, Inc. who provided “Swag” for all participants.

United Way of St. Lucie County will be hosting its annual Day of Caring on October 12th. Last year over 400 volunteers completed 16 projects! United Way is currently recruiting volunteers. St. Lucie West Centennial’s Outboard Marine Technology program is off to a great start! Students are learning about general lab safety, identifying tools needed for their work and measuring electricity and temperature. The students are actively engaged and excited about the authentic learning that will take place this year.
This Friday, the Mets and the Chamber of Commerce invite you to enjoy a fun-filled evening at First Data Field. Enjoy interacting with local organizations and merchants at the vendor expo, cheering with baseball fans, and being wowed by fireworks. (See flyer for details.)
Thom Jones, Executive Director of the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County, provided an end-of-year update to the School Board. The St. Lucie County Education Foundation was founded in 1990 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose purpose is to support the teachers and students of the St. Lucie County School District through programs not funded by tax revenue.
Martha Taylor – Job Coach SLPS Martha was nominated for her work with Student Perks, a coffee cart that is at the SLC Board of County Commissioners Building as well as at the Port St. Lucie City Hall Building. She has worked tirelessly to provide this wonderful opportunity for the students to learn job skills. Taylor has worked closely with the schools, students, county administrators and commissioners to make this enterprise happen. Pete Tesch and Jill Marasa from Economic Development Council (EDC), Rich Kolleda from Workforce Readiness Taskforce (WRT), and Brian Bauer from CareerSource Research Coast thanked the School Board for supporting this summer’s Boot Camps and acknowledged the positive partnership that they have with SLPS. Ready to Work Boot Camps were established at the request of manufacturers and trades seeking employees. The WRT was started in 2015 as a result of the EDC’s 2015-2020 Strategic Plan to explore workforce readiness and education improvements that has grown to 30 plus regional stakeholders.
