The Student Council of Morningside Elementary showcased their leadership and commitment to the environment by organizing a litter clean-up event around the playground. This year’s Literacy Week at Morningside Elementary was an exciting celebration of reading and language! In 2nd grade at Morningside Elementary, students enthusiastically participated in a collaborative activity that was focused on telling time. During Thanksgiving break, the Morningside Elementary School “Girls on the Run” team proudly participated in the 5k Celebration! After 10 weeks of dedicated training, the girls showcased their hard work and determination. Mrs. Johnson’s 2nd-grade MTSS class did a research inquiry project and presented their findings. Utilizing books and online resources, students researched the season of their choice—identifying weather conditions and plant/animal adaptations and changes. 

The 9th Annual Indian River Lagoon Science Festival was held on October 26th. Morningside Elementary’s 5th graders presented their energy projects, and our Everglades Ambassadors worked hard to convince our community members to save the Everglades!

At Morningside Elementary, Ms. W-J’s and Mrs. Kistler’s classes enjoyed a wonderful presentation from former Blue Jay Benjamin Johnson, son of our very own, Ms. W-J! Officer Benjamin Johnson works for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and he did an amazing job of sharing with students what he does to protect the fish, wildlife, and residents. Officer Johnson’s most recent assignment even included serving in search and rescue missions in Tampa following Hurricane Milton! #OnceaBlueJayAlwaysABlueJay #ServeandProtect #FWC

Girls on the Run at Morningside Elementary is back up and running after some time off due to the hurricane!   This wonderful organization teaches girls confidence and life skills through engaging weekly lessons.  The girls are currently learning about making positive connections with new friends.  They are also hard at work outside running laps to prepare themselves for a community 5K later on in the school year.  The coaches are very proud of how motivated and hard-working the girls have been!

Plory’s Prize Patrol swept through the halls and into classrooms, awarding students who met their i-Ready goals for the month of September. Students cheered each other on as names were called out. Students are experts at monitoring their own minutes, as well as encouraging peers.  

To celebrate Perfect Attendance for September, Morningside Elementary held a special event where students with perfect attendance got to enjoy a fun pop-up incentive: throwing water balloons at our brave Principal, Assistant Principal, School Resource Deputy, and Instructional Coach! 💦 It was a blast, and we loved seeing the joy and excitement on everyone’s faces. 😄  

Ms. Williams-Johnson (Ms. WJ) was selected as the Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year for St. Lucie Public Schools. Ms. WJ will represent SLPS at the Florida Council for Social Studies Conference. She is a great representative of the incredible teaching staff at Morningside Elementary. Congratulations, Ms. WJ!

Jambo!  While learning about the continent of Africa, students in Mrs. Eibl’s class chose a country, researched information about its culture and animals, created a project, and presented their findings to classmates.  Where will they go next?  Only time will tell!

At Morningside Elementary, in preparation for their Earth and Space Unit Assessment, students in Mrs. M’s and Ms. WJ’s 5th-grade classes scrimmaged in Quizlet Live! Students were randomly assigned to teams. Each member of the team received the same question but different answer choices on each of their devices, requiring teammates to collaborate with each other to determine the correct answer! In preparation for this scrimmage, students worked diligently to complete learning tasks and study materials, allowing time for some friendly competition!  

5th-grade students in Mrs. Williams’ class had all sorts of learning fun and engagement during their first ELA unit that focused on corn! Students had the opportunity to taste many corn-related products throughout the unit, with corn salsa being a favorite! As a culminating activity, students brought literacy to life by creating and building their very own corn mazes!
