Lawnwood Leopards are Celebrating Black History Month

During the month of February, students in grades K-5 learned about the contributions of various African Americans.  During this schoolwide celebration, classroom teachers guided students as they worked collaboratively to research influential African Americans like Denzel Washington, Mae Jemison, Simone Biles, Madame CJ Walker, Toni Morrison, Rosa Parks, and Dr. Martin Luther King.  They gathered information from websites and articles.  Students also created drawings, charts, and artwork to enhance their class project display board.  During the Black History Family Night, students dressed as their assigned historical figure and shared important facts about their person. In all, it was an opportunity for students to celebrate diversity and reflect upon the impact that African Americans have made in the USA.
