St. Lucie Public Schools 3rd Grade ELA Scores on the Rise

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — Growth continues in St. Lucie Public Schools according to the Florida Department of Education’s release of Grade 3 ELA Scores.  The District saw a four-percentage point increase over last year’s benchmark; furthermore, 62% of the County’s traditional schools increased in the number of students who scored at proficiency levels (Levels 3, 4, and 5).

Bayshore Elementary showed the greatest gain in the District over last year with a 21% gain. Other schools with large increases include Floresta Elementary with a 16% increase; Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies with a 15% increase; and St. Lucie West K-8 with a 12% increase. In addition, C. A. Moore Elementary, Lakewood Park Elementary, Manatee Academy K-8, and Rivers Edge Elementary increased by nine percentage points.

Fairlawn Elementary led the performance among our schools on the Grade 3 FSA ELA Reading with 75% of their students scoring proficient on the assessment.  West Gate K-8 and Palm Pointe had 71% of their students scoring proficient on the assessment.  Several other schools exceeded the District average of 50% including:  St. Lucie West K-8 and Morningside at (69%), Manatee K-8 (66%), Bayshore (59%), Allapattah Flats K-8 (58%), Rivers Edge and Mariposa (57%), Floresta (56%), F.K. Sweet (55%), and Village Green scoring at the District Level of 50%.

Superintendent E. Wayne Gent stated that early literacy is a high priority and part of the District’s strategic plan for continued improvement.  “We see momentum and celebrate the growth that has occurred.  At the same time, we are analyzing instructional strategies and resources in order to accelerate future growth for our boys and girls.”
