Weatherbee Elementary’s 5th Grade Literacy in Action!
Our 5th grade students are diving deep into literature by analyzing texts with similar themes! Using a hexagon thinking strategy, students compared how Meg and Buck face challenges related to the theme of survival.
By making strong connections, discussing how and why ideas relate, and citing text evidence, students practiced explaining how themes develop across different stories. This rigorous activity met the Florida B.E.S.T. Standard 5.R.1.2. explain the development of stated or implied theme(s) throughout a literary text.
Critical thinking, collaboration, and meaningful conversations were happening all around the room!
