On May 17th, 2018 Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC participated in the first annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down in Fort Pierce, alongside many other organizations. They supplied items such as sleeping bags, care bags, food, boots, and many other helpful items to veterans in need. This is the first of many veterans outreach events for upcoming years, making it one of their unit goals to continue to help struggling veterans. None of this could have been possible without the help of the Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC cadets, culinary, and Care Bags Inc. We interviewed a homeless veteran who said “They’re not there by choice.” A lot of them deal with substance abuse, PTSD, and loneliness. They really love all the things the people do for them and they greatly appreciate it.
