Criminal Justice seniors from St. Lucie Public Schools were afforded the opportunity to be recognized by President Leslie Kristof of Keiser University, Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Assistant Chief Richard DelToro, St. Lucie Public Schools Board Members, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Helen Wild. This event was held at Keiser University to recognize graduating seniors for earning industry certifications, completing three Criminal Justice courses, and participating in Career and Technical student organizations. Chef Gedke and her students from St. Lucie West Centennial High School catered the event!

Culinary Arts students from Port St. Lucie High School, Northport K-8, and St. Lucie West Centennial High School hosted three booths at the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Taste of St. Lucie fundraiser. Port St. Lucie High’s Jaguar Culinary Team sautéed and served Lucky 7 Wontons with Asian Slaw and Gator Loupgaroo with Boom-Boom Sauce. Delicious! St. Lucie West K-8 students served their homemade “Shark Bites” — a combination of dark chocolate cake, chocolate cream, dark chocolate, and whipped cream. Yummy! The Adobe Advisory Board met April 3, 2019, focusing on St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) teachers whose students earn the Adobe Suite Industry Certifications in Flash/Animate, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, PremierePro and Illustrator. Career and Tech Ed (CTE) Program Specialists Keron Belgraves, Lei’Nitia Robinson, and Dana Caputo spearheaded this collaborative meeting by inviting Indian River State College representatives to present, including Dean Jim Jeffers, RCCPC Coordinator Strather Dupree, Enrollment Representative Rachel Bozzo, and Recruiter Cassandra Raya. ‘Reaching students’ was the theme of the meeting. Port St Lucie High’s Culinary Arts hosted their Jamaica-Me-Crazy Teacher Lunch in early April. The students and Chef Roland Foerster prepared and served teachers a taste of Negril, The West End! The recipes included “Irie” conch soup, ackee and saltfish (national dish of Jamaica), oxtail stew, curry goat, smoked chicken and pork basted with Jazzy’s own jerk seasoning and served with pigeon peas and rice, homemade fried plantains, and “Blue Drawers” sweet coconut and cornmeal cooked in banana leaf. All meals were served with a smile and traditional “Johnnycakes.” There were Jaguar smiles all around!
The Allied Health Advisory Board met in early April at Fort Pierce Central High School in Samantha Jackson’s Health Science classroom. Lei’Nitia Robinson, Program Specialist for Career and Tech Ed (CTE), brought together Health Science teachers from across St. Lucie Public Schools and representatives from local partners including: ABC Medical, Keiser University Admissions Department, Keiser Sports Medicine and Nursing Programs, Indian River State College Nursing and Health Science Department, and Johnson and Wales University Admissions Department. It was a great day of collaboration and partnership!
St Lucie West Centennial High Culinary Arts students had their moment to shine at the 19th Annual Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association’s Competition. The pictures show the beautiful fruit carvings and culinary dishes Centennial’s Eagles prepared at the competition. Chef Calvin Lewis and Chef Christina Gedke-Balachak were very proud of their talented Eagles!

As part of the Piper Apprenticeship kickoff, Mark Hueter, Engineering Pathways and Technical Design instructor at Lincoln Park Academy and Rafael Ordonez, Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering instructor at Treasure Coast High School, toured Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach. Fort Pierce Westwood High School agriscience students and their instructor Jenna Blankenbaker hosted a virtual field trip for middle schools. Using the virtual meeting platform Skype, classrooms from Northport K-8, Manatee K-8, and Allapattah Flats K-8 connected with the Westwood FFA Officers to see animals, technology, tools, and highlights of the program.
