Northport Culinary Students Make Treats

Culinary Arts students at Northport K-8 are following kitchen safety protocols by creating rice crispy treats.  Some chose to drizzle melted chocolate or add mini M&Ms while others formed shapes such as hearts and snowmen.  The delicious treats were sold at the Northport K-8 Winter Band Concert!

St. Lucie Public Schools at Chart Your Course!

St. Lucie Public Schools middle and high school students participated in the Chart Your Course, Marine and Maritime Career Expo hosted at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club.  Local marine businesses demonstrated equipment and spoke about skills needed in the field.  Students were able to plan for their future and make connections to local career opportunities in the marine industry!

Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health HOSA Chapter Visits Assisted Living Facility for Valentine’s Day Celebration, CTE Month

Fort Pierce Central’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter celebrated Career & Technical Education (CTE) month and shared joy and smiles on Valentine’s day.  HOSA members along with their chapter advisor, Mrs. Lorraine Young, did a presentation and gave each resident flowers and gifts.  Thank you to our business partner, Lake Forest Park Assisted Living Facility, for their collaboration to make this event happen. Port St. Lucie Jaguars Compete at SkillsUSA Culinary

Port St. Lucie High School Culinary Arts students competed at the SkillsUSA Culinary Competition in Kissimmee.  Good luck to participants; Vasilios Koumoundouros, Mikalah Christman, Calvin Diebold, and volunteer Kelvin Gonzales.  Go Jaguars!

Northport K-8 Culinary Students Make Pizza

Culinary Arts students at Northport K-8 were visited by Chef Damiano, a professionally trained Pizza Chef from Fresh Market.  The students were wrapping up their studies on pizza and used Chef Damiano’s dough.  The students made sauce with the Chef’s tomatoes imported from Italy and made pizza with fresh ingredients.  Delizioso!

Culinary Students at Northport K8

Culinary Arts students at Northport K-8 are learning how to be safe while cooking, and how to make better nutritional choices.   Students competed in a salsa challenge where each added a secret ingredient that was then judged by the school staff! The winning salsas were served at their school-wide Hispanic Heritage month event.  

Medical Detectives at SLWK8

Medical Detective Students at St. Lucie West K8 use microscopes for their protozoan classification lesson.  Students also participated in the St. Lucie County Regional STEM Fair!

Central’s Culinary Students Tour IRSC Hospitality and Tourism

Indian River State College Culinary Institute and Hospitality and Tourism Program hosted an educational tour for FPC’s Culinary students.  During the visit, the students were able to participate in the youtube simulcast of the No Vacancy Live podcast with Glenn Haussman and Anthony Melchiorri; and the guest was Greg Juceam, the President and CEO of Extended Stay America. It was an interesting day where students continued to build rapport with IRSC Professors, toured the IRSC Culinary Institute, met current IRSC students and FPC alumni, were served a delicious lunch, and were exposed to exciting aspects of the Hospitality industry. Cybersecurity Program Highlighted at Florida Career Pathways Network Symposium

The Career & Technical Education Department attended and presented at the Florida Career Pathways Network Symposium.  The presentation was focused on the Cybersecurity program at Lincoln Park Academy with Mr. Alan Mathison.  Mr. Mathison presented details on the Cybersecurity grant and technological advances newly implemented at Lincoln Park Academy for middle to high school students enrolled in the program.

Fort Pierce Central High School HOSA Students’ Holiday Community Service Event

The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter from Fort Pierce Central High School came together to share holiday joy at Lake Forest Assisted Living facility. Students delivered holiday cheer with gifts for the residents and holiday songs. HOSA is a student-led organization for high school students enrolled in a Health Science program and interested in pursuing a career as a health professional.

Industrial Biotechnology Program Virtual Field Trip

SLPS middle school students attended a virtual field trip to Treasure Coast High School to visit the Industrial Biotechnology program.  This event was hosted by Mr. John Williams (Industrial Biotechnology educator) and his Biotechnology students, along with the district’s Career and Technical Education department.  Students touring this program were able to watch live lab demonstrations and learn about the Industrial Biotechnology career pathway.

Career & Technical Education Programs Showcased at Treasure Coast Business Summit

Multiple Career and Technical Education (CTE) program educators and students showcased their industry related skill sets at the Treasure Coast Business Summit.  CTE programs represented were Technical Design, International Business, Building Construction Technologies, and Allied Health.  This was a great opportunity for our students to network and demonstrate their knowledge and skills for our community members.

Allied Health Career Day at Fort Pierce Central High School

Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health students participated in a Career Day with Legacy Private Care of the Treasure Coast (Mark Hassett and Rosanna Bennett) and Dr. Perry Lloyd medical office (Leydy Juaruz). Students gained knowledge of industry demand and opportunities in St. Lucie County and on the Treasure Coast.  Appreciation goes to Ms. Charles, Mrs. Young, and Mrs. Beaumier for welcoming the business partners to connect with their students.    

Culinary Students Compete at Sunshine Kitchen

St. Lucie Public Schools Culinary Programs competed at the Sunshine Kitchen in Fort Pierce. Five outstanding high school culinary students competed along with an Indian River State Culinary Institute student at the Tuesday, October 25th Sunshine Kitchen Cook-Off. Master of Ceremonies was Chef Leslie Moyer, judges included Chef Mike Febre, True Roots Catering; Heather Belmont, Indian River State College; and Guytano D’Annna, Bonefish Macs. The winning team was Donavin Derrico from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy and Jay Shemo from Indian River State Culinary Institute who each won a $1,500 scholarship. Tech Design Preapprenticeship at Port St. Lucie High

Students in Mr. Picchiarini’s Technical Design classes are using Autodesk AutoCad and Inventor to design. Analyzing and editing are a big part of the process. After editing, the designs come to life using the class lab 3D printers. Pictured are some designs created by Kadesh Robbins, Nick Collins, and Nick Lambiase. Career & Technical Education’s Professional Development Hosted at Keiser University

Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers from middle and high school programs participated in multiple professional development (PD) sessions at Keiser University, Tradition Campus. The CTE Educators gained further insight into the articulation agreements, scholarship opportunities, and continuing education from Keiser University representatives (Mrs. Linda Fitzpatrick, Dr. Nicol, and Dr. Reed). Professional development opportunities included Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast, hosted by Ms. Emma Green and Mrs. Katie Thompson. SLW Centennial’s Criminal Justice Student Completes Judicial Internship with Judge Maynard

St. Lucie West Centennial’s Criminal Justice/Law Academy student, Vincent Chin, was selected from all the local high schools to intern with U.S. Magistrate Judge Shaniek Maynard.  Vincent and Judge Maynard worked together from July 5 until August 5, and was an official member of Judge Maynard’s Chamber Staff.  This prestigious internship was based on teacher recommendations and afforded Vincent the chance to earn community service hours during his time as an intern. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, the W.E.S.T. Prep Magnet’s student Jaime Espinoza-Hurtado, designed and created a popular PBIS t-shirt. Jaime is pictured with Digital Media Multimedia instructor, Erica Hueter to his right, Dwayne Chapman to his left, and Mr. Thomas on the end. Treasure Coast High hosted Universal Technical Institute (UTI) who arrived with performance machines! UTI spoke to students in the Engineering and Manufacturing CTE programs about continuing their education and training in the automotive field. Students respected the mustangs!

Port St. Lucie High School’s Nursing Assistant students were recognized for their success in earning their industry certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. During the recognition ceremony, current educator Jacklyn Cebelak honored the students with a Tiki celebration.
