On Constitution Day, Centennial High School’s Criminal Justice students stepped out of the classroom and into the St. Lucie County courthouse for a firsthand look at the judicial system. Students were introduced to the wide range of careers that make up the courtroom workgroup, gaining insight into the roles and responsibilities of the professionals who keep our justice system running. Throughout the day, they interacted directly with judges, attorneys, and other legal professionals who shared their career paths and answered questions about the profession.
The highlight of the experience was a mock trial and appellate argument, where students argued positions, examined evidence, and collaborated side by side with courtroom professionals who coached them through the process. This real-world exposure gave students a deeper appreciation for constitutional principles, the rule of law, and the value of respectful civil discourse. Experiences like this help our students connect classroom learning to genuine career pathways.
