St. Lucie Public Schools Grad Rate Increases to 91.8 Percent

For the second year, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) boasts a graduation rate above 90 percent with 1.7 percent growth this year landing the District at 91.8 percent – well above the State average. All comprehensive high schools in the District scored at or above 91.7 percent with an overall average of 96.5 percent. “This is a monumental accomplishment.  All demographic groups continue to perform at high levels as more and more students graduate each year.  This is vital to support college and career opportunities for our students and will continue to aid economic development in our community,” said Superintendent E. Wayne Gent.

According to a report released today by the Florida Department of Education, the District’s comprehensive high schools saw an overall increase of two percent with Port St. Lucie High School achieving a seven-percent hike.  Two high schools laid claim to graduation rates that exceeded 98 percent (Lincoln Park Academy, 99.5, and Treasure Coast High School, 98.1).  St. Lucie West Centennial High School, 97.6; Fort Pierce Central High School, 95.5; Port St. Lucie High School, 96.8; and Fort Pierce Westwood High School, 91.7, far surpassed the State graduation average of 86.1.

Out of 67 Florida districts, SLPS ranks fourth for economically disadvantaged students, fifth for Hispanic students, sixth for ELL students, eighth for ESE students, tenth for Black students, and thirteenth for White students.  Supporting all students in their achievement of graduation goals is the mission of SLPS.  “Our teachers and administrators are dedicated and focused.  They are committed to helping all students achieve their personal best — their persistence is paying off,” said Gent.
