SLW Centennial Medical Academy Students Collect Toys for Local Children in Foster Care

Mrs. Durkee and Mrs. Higgins’ Allied Health classes and HOSA-Future Health Professional members partnered up with Communities Connected for Kids for their annual Making Christmas Bright project. CCK oversees child-welfare services in Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast, and Guardians for New Futures, which helps meet the unfunded needs of children in foster care. The project has served thousands of children in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties.

For the fourth year, students, student groups, faculty and staff from all over the Centennial campus, jumped at the chance to participate in this year’s toy drive. We were even fortunate to have a parent ‘Secret Santa’ partner with us this year. We were able to provide the 60 children on our list with the three gifts on their Christmas wish list. In addition, because of our Secret Santa mom, we had at least 200 extra gifts for additional kids.

We wish to thank all who generously donated gifts to this very worthwhile organization. It means so much to us to participate with this very important project for local children in need. If you ever want to consider participating with this toy drive event, contact Christina Kaiser at CCK (772) 528-0362 or email christina.kaiser@cckids.net and join the fun.
