Students in Carmela Innamorato’s kindergarten class at Windmill Point had a delectable time learning about the night sky! Students used Oreos as they explored how the stars and moon are in the night sky. The cookies helped students to see why the phases of the moon make the moon look different each night. Students in Tara Nettles’ kindergarten class at Windmill Point Elementary are learning their sight words in innovating ways. The students created turkeys and added first quarter sight words to show their knowledge of the words. The students worked diligently to complete their sight word turkeys during the fluency and word work portion of their day. They thoroughly enjoyed reading the words to each other once the turkeys were completed.
Students in Carmela Innamorato’s kindergarten class at Windmill Point are exploring 3-dimensional shapes in their math class. Windmill Point Elementary kindergartners enjoyed their 100th day of school with special learning activities! All of the students thoroughly enjoyed this special day!
Windmill Point Elementary fifth graders are incorporating technology into Social Studies. Students have been learning about the European Explorers and the importance they have had on our world in Social Studies. Pictured is Laura Young’s fifth grade class as they are creating a Power Point presentation on a specific explorer. They will be teaching each other about their explorer by presenting their PowerPoint presentations to the class. They are learning not only how technology can enhance their projects but how it enhances their learning.

Windmill Point families enjoyed learning important information about the upcoming FSA assessments through a fun night of family trivia! Families worked together to solve problems like the ones their children will see on FSA. Students at Windmill Point Elementary performed the musical “Annie, Jr.” at Treasure Coast High School recently. All of the students who participated did a wonderful job, and we truly appreciated all the teachers, staff and parents who helped make this play such a huge success!!
Windmill Point Elementary School and business partner, the Big Apple Pizza on Gatlin Boulevard, sponsored a Kids at Hope Night. Families and the community were delighted as faculty and staff served guests their dinners. Talented paraprofessional Sara Cruz and her husband did free face painting and balloon creations for all chidren. The event was spearheaded by the Kids at Hope Committee organized by St. Lucie County’s Teacher of the Year, Mary Trubisky. 10% of all proceeds from the evening came back to our school’s Kids at Hope fund. Windmill Point Elementary students William and Joseph Kytoski enjoyed some mother and son quality time at a recent “Mother and Son Social” Kids at Hope event recently. The school’s PTO and the Kids at Hope committees collaborated and hosted this event to celebrate ACES, those caring adults in a child’s life identified through the Kids at Hope initiative. It is believed that one reason children succeed is when they have meaningful and sustainable relationships with caring adults. February 6th marked the 100th day of school, and Windmill Point Elementary celebrated with a special kindergarten parade. Carmela Innamorato, kindergarten teacher, is shown in the photo with several students from her class!
Windmill Point celebrated Literacy Week throughout the last week in January. Many special visitors came to the school, including Superintendent Michael Lannon. Mr. Lannon read a story to Tracy Wert’s fifth grade class.
During the week of December 1st-5th, Windmill Point celebrated “ACES in our Lives”! ACES were honored by inviting these special people to have lunch with a student. As part of the Kids at Hope philosophy, Windmill Point believes that all children are successful when they have meaningful and sustainable relationships with adults. A letter went home with students describing the four ACES that are typically found in children’s lives, as well as a schedule for each grade level. Lunch was brought in or purchased through the school cafeteria.
Mrs. Miller’s 5th grade art students discovered the Elements of Art using science observation skills. Each pair of students were given a hand lens and set of leaves and asked questions that they then answered using their senses and observation skills. Using team work, they then compared their observations and charted them to help the students understand the elements found in all art. Shown in the photo is Cassandra Lembo.
SLWK8 Middle School STEAM students in Mrs. Boham’s class created wind turbines to learn about technician and engineering careers in the natural and renewable energy sectors. All students were able to meet the design brief to lift one washer, which weighed 9 grams. Three teams created turbines that lifted 20 washers or 175 grams! They put the engineering design process through a workout by testing and improving numerous times to create an aerodynamic blade and support structure to lift such a heavy payload. Teacher Janine Wiecks made a delivery to every student in her class recently. She was able to see almost the entire class. It was so hard to not give hugs and keep her social distance. Each goodie bag has a copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a personalized note; some Wonka bookmarks, a golden ticket, and scrumptious candies. AWESOME gestures and gifts Mrs. Wiecks. ❤
