Inspired by the Award-Winning Show Shark Tank, Mrs. Balletta’s second-grade class celebrated Inventors’ Day by creating robots. Amelia Horn presented her Pencil Robot project which she constructed out of clay. Congrats to our future inventors!

St. Lucie West K8 Celebrates Influential Americans

Mrs. D’Andrea’s third-grade gifted class shared presentations of their research on Influential Americans. Students researched and created timelines using Microsoft PowerPoint. Students were able to practice presentation etiquette and enhance their active listening skills.  

St. Lucie West K8 Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

SLWK8 truly embraced the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month. We organized an amazing door decorating contest that breathed life into our halls. Ms. Richardson’s Kindergarten class transformed their door into a beautiful work of art representing Prosperity, Power, and Progress! Our dedicated staff came together for a delectable potluck, offering culinary delights from various Hispanic countries. We also elevated our morning announcements by spotlighting prominent Hispanic figures who’ve shaped our world. It was a month where our students and staff united in honoring the rich and vibrant culture of Hispanic Heritage.

St. Lucie West K8 Celebrates Dr. King’s vision of unity to construct a 1st Place Float! Students and teachers came together to build a float to showcase the shark spirit with the parade theme “Change Begins with Me.” Teachers came before and stayed late after school, even giving their weekend to build the float for the January 20th Parade in Ft. Pierce. Students worked in their free time to paint, construct, connect, and create the float. St. Lucie West K8 Celebrates CTE Month by Visiting SLW Centennial High School CTE Programs

Eighth grade Sharks took a field trip to experience CTE (Career Technical Education) programs at our amazing neighboring high school, St. Lucie West Centennial High School. St. Lucie West K8 Business Project Competition Finalists Win 1st and 2nd Place!

Business project competition finalists went to the district office and won first and second place in two categories. Ms. Tremblay’s culinary career students competed in the New Food Truck concept division and both teams earned first and second place! Jake Askew and Angel Castillo won first place with Juanito’s Latin Cuisine. Oscar Sanchez won second place with Mandos, a Mexican – African American fusion restaurant. Naaman Rolle and Denauli Scott won first place in the MS entrepreneurship category with an app to ease communications when gaming in different platforms. St. Lucie West K8 Annual Spring Carnival

Shark Nation kicked off spring with our annual Carnival! Student Council did an extraordinary job planning this incredible event! Clubs and grade levels set up fantastic booths with games, raffles, food, and fun. The foam party, bounce houses, dunk tank, and petting zoo were a hit!    

St. Lucie West K8 Annual Color Run

Shark Nation’s Color Run was a very bright success! St. Lucie West K8 students participated in the 2024 Annual Color Run and had an absolute blast. The fundraiser helped raise funds for teacher, staff, and student incentives. Students designed their Color Run flags to proudly represent their class! Students were able to enjoy this colorful event with friends, teachers, and staff. St. Lucie West K-8 Third Grade Math is Sweeter with Hands-On Learning

Our math lesson was as sweet as it gets! Students dove into the world of equivalent fractions using a full-size Hershey’s bar, turning a tricky concept into an unforgettable, hands-on adventure. As they snapped the chocolate into equal pieces, they could see fractions come to life—discovering cool connections like how 1/2 is the same as 6/12 when the bar is divided into twelve parts. Laughter, curiosity, and a little bit of chocolate filled the room as students explored how different fractions can represent the same whole. It was fun, engaging, and deliciously educational. St. Lucie West K-8 Super Bowl Math Prep in Mrs. Schettini’s Class

Mrs. Schettini’s Accelerated Math students geared up for their upcoming district assessment with Super Bowl–themed fraction centers. Working in teams, students created equivalent fractions, ordered and compared fractions, and measured their best “kicking” distances using math skills and strategy. The classroom was full of collaboration, problem-solving, and excitement as students explained their thinking and supported one another. They even enjoyed a fun Kidz Bop halftime performance to keep the energy high and spirits strong. SLWK-8 eighth grade students recently had the exciting opportunity to tour the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at SLW Centennial High School. During the visit, students explored a variety of pathways designed to prepare them for college, careers, and real-world success. Teachers and current students proudly represented their programs, sharing their knowledge, experiences, and passion for their chosen fields. St. Lucie West K-8 eighth graders had an exciting opportunity to attend the Classrooms2Careers event at the SLPS District Office. Sponsored by the Treasure Coast Center for Economic & Educational Development and the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County, this interactive experience connects students with a wide range of career pathways. The students of St. Lucie West K-8 once again have brought the past to the present alongside their sharp skills and in-depth knowledge for National History Day, showcasing projects in the junior division across multiple categories, including Exhibits, Documentaries, Websites, and Historical Papers. Third Grade Sharks engaged in a hands-on activity where they explored various informational texts, focusing on features such as headings, tables of contents, and glossaries. They collaborated to identify these features within different texts and discuss how each one helps locate key information efficiently. They put their skills into practice by using text features to find specific details quickly, enhancing their comprehension skills. In Mrs. Ferrante’s 4th-grade classes, students eagerly tackled a fun division challenge to identify the Most Wanted Remainders. They worked in pairs, solving problems and sharing strategies, turning their review into an exciting quest. The activity encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence in their math skills, making division concepts engaging and memorable. St. Lucie West K-8 Sharks Play the Sengsational Search

Ms. Seng’s 6th-grade students engaged in the Sengsational Search, an interactive learning activity inspired by the Amazing Race. Working collaboratively in pairs, students raced to solve multi-step clues that challenged their critical thinking, teamwork, and content knowledge. Each task is connected directly to their Ancient Egypt unit. Students created a detailed tri-fold foldable highlighting the three Egyptian Kingdoms, constructed a mummy model, illustrated canopic jars, and wrote an informational piece explaining the steps of mummification. Our Sharks brought big energy and made waves on Day 67! Fourth-grade math sharks tackled a Scavenger Hunt Escape Room, solving “baby algebra” problems and true/false equations to earn secret letters, crack the code, and enjoy a sweet treat. Meanwhile, our middle schoolers focused on an editing challenge inspired by The Town of 67, showing incredible growth and determination. And in third grade, mathematicians teamed up for a Mystery Message Scoot, solving addition problems with 6s and 7s to uncover a hidden message.
