The PBIS Committee hosted a festive winter carnival for Shark Nation! Students had the opportunity to use the shark bucks they had earned to attend this bright and merry event. The carnival had everything from bounce houses, face painting, snacks, and games. What an amazing way to kick off winter break!
Ready, Set, GLOW! SharkNation students had a blast at our PBIS Glow Dance. Their neon energy and smiles illuminated the gym as they danced and enjoyed time with their friends and teachers!
SLWK8 students had a blast at PBIS Field Day! Our sharks worked in teams to compete in several activities, including Tug of War, Water Sponge Relay, Hula Hoop Race, Basketball Dunk, Ball Bounce, and Water Balloon Toss!
St. Lucie West K8 in partnership with Publix, hosted Math Night for kindergarten through fifth grade students. Students had a fin-tastic time walking through the aisles of Publix, exploring different departments, and using critical thinking skills to solve real-world math problems. SLWK8 students participated in the Treasure Coast Chapter Competition for the first time and earned 2nd place. They are eligible to compete at the state level! Way to go, Sharks!
St. Lucie West K8, in conjunction with Kona Ice of White City, celebrated Read Across America. Mr. Walter read to Mrs. Richardson’s kindergarten class. Additionally, the class was given a Kona Ice along with other treats. We want to say a big Thank You to Kona Ice for donating their time to us and celebrating Read Across America Day!
St. Lucie West K8 School kindergartners recently enjoyed visiting the Florida Oceanographic Center. Students enjoyed opportunites to learn about local ocean life, such as petting stingrays. Every year, young creative authors have the opportunity to showcase their brilliant writing skills. They are able to express themselves and share their talents with those around them. Shark Nation is so proud to congratulate and honor one of our own talented, creative, and outstanding students! Anjolie John’s talented writing was celebrated during St. Lucie Public School’s Young Authors celebration. She was all smiles as she was recognized and awarded a certificate. Sixth-grade students were honored to have one of their own teachers, a veteran herself, talk with students about being a veteran and what it means. Thank you, Ms. Velazquez for your service! In addition, Ms. Seng and Mr. Watkins had their students write Thank-you notes after learning what it means to be a veteran. Dr. Monroe and Ms. Sexton were honored to deliver the notes to local veterans and extend our gratitude for their service. It was truly an honor to celebrate our veterans!
Third-grade students in Ms. Balfe’s and Mrs. Schettini’s classes were trapped on Planet Emoji! They had to work together in teams to solve reading challenges to escape. Students read poems, used context clues, and identified character traits, the central idea, and text structures. It was a stellar way to prepare for their upcoming FAST assessment!
In preparation for their upcoming assessment, 5th-grade students in Ms. Herrero’s class collaborated in groups as they rotated around the classroom. They worked to answer questions on different types of energy, such as mechanical, electrical, heat, light, and sound!
Shark Nation ELA Students are Future CEOs! Mrs. Howard’s ELA students took on the role of entrepreneurs during our Shark Tank Projects! Students created original products or made an old product better and pitched them using powerful rhetorical devices and emotional appeals to convince the Sharks to invest. They didn’t stop there—each pitch was supported with nonfiction text features such as headings, diagrams, charts, bolded key words, and statistics to clearly present information and strengthen their arguments. This project combined persuasive writing, speaking skills, creativity, and critical thinking—and the confidence these students showed was impressive! Way to go, ELA Sharks!
SLWK8 earned the Aim for 100 Award for our percentage of increase in attendance on 12/21/23 from last year’s early release the day before winter break. The team was honored at the school board meeting and received a banner. Congratulations, Shark Nation!
SLWK8 seventh graders presented at the District Project Showcase. They have been preparing since December by researching problems in their community and finding a public policy solution. Our students went through three rounds of judging to display their knowledge and hard work. Thank you to our incredible students and Civics teachers for all their dedication!
Shark Chefs from Ms. Tremblay’s Culinary Class completed their Entrepreneurship Unit! Students were thrilled to create their vision for a Food Truck. On the final day before class presentations, Teppan Nyoko, one of SLWK8’s Business Partners came to teach and support our students. They were on-site for students to learn about the inside workings of this business model. Students were invited to cook some incredible hibachi specialties. St. Lucie West K8 3rd-5th Grade Choral students traveled to Lincoln Park Academy recently to join over 100 other students from across the district to be a part of the 2025 St. Lucie Public Schools All County Chorus. Students stayed after school and practiced at home on their own to prepare and memorize eight songs so that they could be ready for the big day. Once at All County Chorus, they spent several hours in the morning rehearsing with other students.
