St. Lucie Public Schools celebrates individuals each month for exceptional customer service with the STAR award.  This month’s recipients were from Lakewood Park Elementary and the Finance Department. Mr. Blount, a music instructor at Lakewood Park Elementary School, provides support to the marching band program at Fort Pierce Central High School.  After coaching his aspiring elementary musicians, he devotes hours supporting the older musicians in a voluntary capacity. This month’s STAR Awards were presented to Angela LaRose, Assistive Technology Assistant, FDLRS, and to Christine Jordan, Administrative Assistant, FDLRS.  Both Angie and Chris have provided stellar customer service to teachers and parents in St. Lucie County for over 10 years. They provide information and classroom support materials for students ages 3-22 in both general education and ESE settings. Congratulations!

STAR Award: Stephen Malpass

STAR Awards are special recognitions for employees who demonstrate outstanding service above and beyond expectations.  At the January School Board Meeting, the District was honored to recognize Mr. Stephen Malpass, a member of the maintenance team. The STAR Program focuses on recognizing stellar service from our employees for their behaviors, skills and actions that correlate with the District’s core values. “Miss Jackie” (Jacquelyn Occhiuzzo) was nominated as a STAR recipient for her outstanding service to students and parents as a member of the Transportation Department.  Miss Jackie, as her students and parents fondly call her, was celebrated most recently because of her tremendous efforts to keep children safe and parents well-informed during a heavy thunderstorm when a mechanical issue necessitated a substitute bus during her regular route.  With care and compassion, she escorted children from one bus to the other under an umbrella and notified parents of the delay with a personal call helping to calm everyone.  She then safely … Read More

Standing Room Only for Lawnwood Talent Show

Singer, dancers, karate, gymnastics, and football moves were only a few of the dozens of talented teachers and students who took the Lawnwood Elementary stage. The annual Talent Show Night was presented to over 300 friends and parents who excitedly packed the auditorium. Staff from Coast Guard station teach water safety at Weatherbee Elementary

Thanks to the Partnership in Education between Weatherbee Elementary and the United States Coast Guard Station in Fort Pierce, first, third, and fifth grade students at Weatherbee learned about water safety during a visit to the school by staff from the Coast Guard station who delivered an informative presentation, teaching the students how to stay safe in, on, and around the water. After the presentation, members of the Auxiliary presented a “Let’s Talk Trash” game for the students to learn the importance of keeping waterways clean and also to learn how to put on a personal floatation device correctly. The SEL Department’s presentation at the Excelerator Virtual Conference sponsored by the national organization, Alliance for Strong Families and Communities was well received.  Traci Wilke, Director of SEL and the district’s SEL Specialists’ Cassey Chang and Christina Coppola shared St. Lucie Public Schools’ journey in Building Capacity for SEL Across a Large District.  Kelly Martin, the Alliance’s Director of Impact for Educational Success shared, “Your presentation was one of the most engaging and enthusiastic sessions of the entire conference, and we are so grateful for the time and expertise you shared with the Alliance network.”

Frances K. Sweet Elementary School principal Juanita Wright and Treasure Coast High School assistant principal Henry Sanabria were recognized and congratulated at the October 22, 2013, St. Lucie County School Board meeting. The administrators have been selected as the 2013 Outstanding Principal and Outstanding Assistant Principal, respectively, for St. Lucie County Public Schools as part of a Florida Department of Education recognition program. St. Lucie’s distinctive ambassador visits with students at Gaines Academy

Students in Karen Madalena’s class at Samuel Gaines Academy enjoy their time spent with Mr. Dan Galloway and Abigail. Mr. Dan and Abigail travel to several schools in St Lucie County teaching students with special needs a unique “Art/Abigail” curriculum. One of the many commands that students are taught in order to interact with Abigail is to say the word “visit” and Abigail will lay her head in the student’s lap. St. Lucie West K8’s Magnificent Mathematicians

Mrs. Portee’s jaw-some fifth-grade classes were hard at work. The students were focused on estimating mathematical sums and differences. These magnificent mathematicians worked together collaboratively by using fraction strips to determine equivalent fractions. Our Sharks thrive through interactive activities that ask them to not only think critically but also collaboratively. With a standards-based focus, students used their skill set and resources to bring the sums and differences to life. Our Sharks worked diligently together utilizing their interactive notebooks, manipulatives, and math skills to put their fraction knowledge to the test by solving different math problems.
