The Lincoln Park Academy Wind Symphony & Orchestra recently traveled to New York City to perform in the Worldstride’s Heritage National Festival and had an outstanding week of performances and activities. Education’s Shining Stars Announced

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — In a live broadcast on Saturday, February 20, 2016, from Lincoln Park Academy, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) and the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County announced this year’s line-up of educational superstars. Mr. Jeffrey Johnson, Sr. took top honors as St. Lucie County’s Teacher of the Year. At the April 8th School Board Meeting, James McKenzie, Executive Director of the St. Lucie County Education Foundation was presented the S.T.A.R. Award for his help with the Music In Our Schools Month. He has been a strong supporter of St. Lucie County Public Schools. Congratulations Jim! Star Quality

Star Awards are presented to individuals who demonstrate exceptional service.  Ms. JoAnn Aguila’s team in the Assessment and Accountability Department know that she is a shining example of someone who demonstrates unbelievable energy and support for her coworkers and for the schools. This became especially clear during a recent challenge in which the department experienced some water damage. Mrs. Aguila was supportive and did her best to insulate her colleagues and the schools from the concerns of that challenge in order to continue providing quality service.      

STAR Program: Treasure Coast Mall Outing

Students in the St. Lucie STAR program recently participated in a hands-on learning event designed to strengthen independent living and workplace readiness skills. As part of the experience, students visited a local mall where they practiced real-world tasks such as selecting items, managing a budget, and paying for purchases independently. This community-based activity allowed students to apply classroom lessons in a practical setting, building confidence in decision-making, communication, and financial responsibility. The STAR program’s mission is to graduate students who are work-ready by providing meaningful mentorship and scholarship opportunities through partnerships with local businesses. STAR Program Launched

Thom Jones of the Education Foundation, St. Lucie County extends a special thank you to Paul Jakubczak, Carol Wilson, and  Lois Wolfe of the Ft. Pierce Utilities Authority and the Boys and Girls Clubs for launching the first STAR Business Mentor Class! These STAR Scholars will be mentored over the next two years as part of the Program’s efforts to inspire students to graduate work ready. Some students may qualify for a fully prepaid scholarship funded by the Education Foundation to earn an AA degree while working locally. Star Bright therapy dogs help students improve reading skills

Alex Cardenal from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition, along with his classmates, hugs one of the dogs from the Star Bright Therapy reading program. To the left of Alex is one of the volunteers from the program,  behind him is behavior technician Neil Siriani, and to his right is teacher Tammy Miller. Volunteers come with the dogs to Palm Pointe once a week for 45 minutes to read with the students. This helps students improve their reading skills. STAR Awards – Retired School Volunteer Program

STAR Recognition for Exceptional Service and Support to St. Lucie Elementary Principal Latricia Woulard commended members of the Retired School Volunteer Program for their mentor support at St. Lucie Elementary.  The dedicated team of individuals provided help and support to new teachers and retention efforts, beautification and establishment of a butterfly garden on campus, and fund raising efforts for supplies. Special recognition and thanks were given to the following at the September 13th Board Meeting: Barbara Kaste, Stephanie Sakowski, Arlene Hazelton, Ruthann Reuther, Marguerite Saady, Chuck Brothers, Vanessa Tillman, and Christine Rodic.

The STAR award recognizes and honors employees each month for demonstration of exemplary customer service. The following employees were recognized by the Board in February: Nakysha Dennis (Dan McCarty Middle School), Michele Rubenstein (Mariposa Elementary – Volunteer), Joe Baio (Lakewood Park – Facilities/Maintenance), Renee Lang (Transportation Dept.- Bus Driver), and Pinkie Smith (Food Service Dept.).

The STAR Program’s focus is to recognize employees for their behaviors, skills and actions that correlate with the District’s vision and acknowledge those who exemplify its core values.     STAR recognitions for the month of September honored Marisol Abrahante, Nicki O’Neill (both from Student Services and Exceptional Student Education at St. Lucie West K-8 School) and Jimmy Hardison (from Transportation).  All three team members were commended for their outstanding service to others.  Congratulations!!
