Students enjoy humorous books about real characters

Ask just about any intermediate student at F.K. Sweet Elementary about their favorite books, and you will hear Nate the Great quite often. This series is written by Lincoln Peirce, and focues on Nate, a sixth grade genius. These hilarious illustrated novels are certainly on Kayla Jungjohan, left, and Willie Whitehead’s reading list.

Students enjoy end of year activities at Gaines Academy

It has been a fun week for students at Gaines Academy with field days and the many activities Coach Camarotti and Coach Ellinger prepared.  Students from Andrea Blackburn’s fourth grade class are pictured preparing for the beach day relay. Students enjoy annual Water Day

Don’t tell these F.K. Sweet Elementary kindergartners that they aren’t at the beach. They probably wouldn’t believe you because so much fun was had by all at the school’s annual Water Day recently. Fom left, Kierstyn Zinter, Brayden Adams, Antianna Mills, Alexia Moxley, and Keilah Magloire are taking a break from the water to enjoy building sand castles on the playground.

Students encouraged to visit the Savannas park

A student led organization out of the Savannas State Park Preserve on Walton Road organized an event to encourage teens out of the house on a Saturday afternoon and enjoy the park. Students Embrace Arts In Our Schools Month with Arts Week at White City Elementary

Students commenced Arts In Our Schools Month with our second annual Arts Week! They competed in grade-level activities that included art scavenger hunts, chalk murals, spray paint relays, and cardboard architecture competitions. Music-filled lunches, bubble watercolor painting, and printmaking activities stamped creativity everywhere! It was a whirlwind of expression and excitement! 

Students earn special tee shirts for reading gains

Students Willie Whitehead, Julian Nunez, Kayla Jungjohan, Morgan Busby, Olivia Sperber, Stoney Braynen, James Coriolan, Justin Adrian, and Wes Varn are just a few of the students who earned Star Reader shirts at F.K. Sweet Elementary. Jeanie DuPell, media specialist, awards students who have either grown a hundred points, or, are reading at least one grade level above their current grade. This program is sponsored by Scholastic, Reading Counts.

Students earn lunch with the principal at Windmill Point

Rivers Edge Elementary hosted an exciting family event recently to put books in to the hands of students, Bingo for Books. Students Earn and Learn

Students learn about the economy in a fun and creative way by participating in the FCEE annual Economic Poster Contest. Each year, approximately 300 students gain a better understanding of our economic system through their participation in this exciting competition. Students learn a basic economic concept and then use their creativity and art skills to demonstrate their understanding of the concept in a colorful drawing. Teachers submit their entries in both the fall and spring semester, after which 12 winners are selected (each term). Entries are judged on originality, creativity, and accuracy of concept. Students dress alike for fundraiser at Palm Pointe

Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently had a “Twin Day” to raise money for Relay for Life. This organization raises money for cancer awareness and for different services for cancer patients. Each year Palm Pointe participates and several activities are planned to help raise money.  Pictured are third grade students from Rosary Polanco’s class that wanted to all dress alike. Students Decorate the District Office to Celebrate “Arts in Our Schools Month”

March is “Arts in Our Schools Month”, an annual celebration that showcases the accomplishments of students in dance, music, theater, and the visual arts nationwide. St. Lucie Public School students showcased their own artistic accomplishments by displaying their artworks in the SLPS District Office! SLPS staff was treated to a wide range of different artistic mediums submitted from various elementary, middle, and high schools in the district. Students create interactive hallways at Allpattah Flats

Seventh grade students in Christine King’s class at Allapattah Flats K-8 School created an interactive bulletin board of the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. Students contribute original art to gallery at Palm Pointe

Third, fourth and fifth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition investigated, examined and studied various artists and their work.  After creating their own original works of art based on the artist they researched, students digitized their work and then used Adobe Photoshop to enhance their images. The work was framed and hung in the newest gallery at the school.

Students continue learning through the summer at 21st Century camps

Students are busy learning at The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) summer programs at several school sites in St. Lucie County. These programs are supported by a federal grant with the school district, and are offered at no cost to students or families, and provide additional education opportunities in a safe and nurturing environment. Students Construct Solar Ovens at Savanna Ridge Elementary!

Fifth grade students at Savanna Ridge Elementary School enjoyed a day of STEM learning. Their task was to design, construct and test solar ovens to demonstrate the transformation of solar energy to thermal energy. After researching different designs, students were given materials to construct a solar oven from a pizza box. They tested their ovens first by melting a square of chocolate for three minutes. They returned to the lab to make adjustments to their designs before making s’mores. Through the STEM activity students reinforced content learned in the classroom and of course, the s’mores were enjoyed by all.

Students celebrate literacy, Northport style

Northport K-8 School teachers, reading coach Deb Mock, and media specialist Lynne Gruszka utilized a variety of means and modes to get students involved in the Just Read, Florida initiative “Celebrate Literacy!” Students from grades K-8 appeared on the morning announcements to talk about their love of reading and to recommend good books. Students worked on posters for a display themed, “Take the Lead and Read” and buddied up with students in other classes to hone reading skills and encourage the joy of reading. Students also were offered the opportunity to show off their writing skills by penning an essay titled, “What … Read More

SLW Centennial recently hosted a vibrant International Festival, celebrating the rich diversity of the school community. Teachers and students enthusiastically set up tables showcasing games, food, and activities representing their countries. The event created a lively and educational atmosphere.
