On October 27th, Oak Hammock K-8 hosted its second annual Trick or Treat Trail, and it was a night to remember! An Act of Kindness Can Make a Stranger’s Day!

A recent random act of kindness was shared on the campus of Fort Pierce Central High School. Cobra student Je’Vaughn Elaissant-Estime set out with a simple goal during the recent Valentine’s Day. When asked by staff, Elaissant-Estime replied: “I just wanted to make someone’s day by being KIND.”? He did not know the student. He randomly chose a person on campus to give a gift of kindness. His act of kindness made the student’s day. #Pride Makes the Difference

American Legion Boys’ State

Every leader has to start somewhere and Boys’ State has been the starting point for many successful young students. The Boys’ State program is a summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion for High School students between their junior and senior years. Port Saint Lucie High Jaguar Battalion’s cadet Lieutenant Colonel William Benagh was this year’s representative. The citizens of each of these cities elect mock municipal officials and representatives to the mock state legislature. American Heart Association – Top Fundraisers

The health and wellness of our students is vitally important, and SLPS is proud of its continued partnership with the American Heart Association. This partnership is crucial, as today, nearly one in three American kids and teens are overweight or obese and many children to not get enough physical activity. Amazing Annual Retreat at Southport Middle School!

Sixth grade students enjoyed an engaging, positive, and busy time at Southport’s annual Student Retreat. This year the Marlins and the Bobcats each had their own day for students to participate. There were activities and games throughout each day, as well as small group discussions where students learned about each other’s likes and dislikes. The day began in the gym and students were later split into small groups with adult team leaders to take part in various team building activities. Allapattah Flats K8 kindergartners reflect on school year

As February comes to a close and March rolls in, kindergartners at Allapattah Flats K8 reflect back on their favorite events from the month. One of their most tresured was the 100 Day Celebration that kicked off the month of February, celebrating their 100 days of school since August. The students had a great time participating in an outside celebration that included 10 fun stations that the students moved to in 10-minute increments. Students from all over the county work with One Blood for their blood drive donation.  The majority of the schools utilize their Allied Health programs to host this voluntary event for their campus.  Just one blood donation can save up to three lives. Allied Health Educators Participate in Advanced Level Training

Allied Health educators from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet and Port St. Lucie High School attended a professional development session surrounding the newest manikin technology purchased for their campus. To meet the needs of students training at the next level, our Career and Technical Education students are going to use these manikins to have simulated learning directly in their classrooms. These manikins are able to simulate advanced training for vital signs, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), automated defibrillator (AED), to an Electrocardiogram (EKG).  These advanced manikins will even allow the allied health students to engage in a conversation from … Read More

Allied Health Career Day at Fort Pierce Central High School

Fort Pierce Central’s Allied Health students participated in a Career Day with Legacy Private Care of the Treasure Coast (Mark Hassett and Rosanna Bennett) and Dr. Perry Lloyd medical office (Leydy Juaruz). Students gained knowledge of industry demand and opportunities in St. Lucie County and on the Treasure Coast.  Appreciation goes to Ms. Charles, Mrs. Young, and Mrs. Beaumier for welcoming the business partners to connect with their students.    

Allied Health Advisory Board Meeting

The Allied Health Advisory Board met in early April at Fort Pierce Central High School in Samantha Jackson’s Health Science classroom.  Lei’Nitia Robinson, Program Specialist for Career and Tech Ed (CTE), brought together Health Science teachers from across St. Lucie Public Schools and representatives from local partners including: ABC Medical, Keiser University Admissions Department, Keiser Sports Medicine and Nursing Programs, Indian River State College Nursing and Health Science Department, and Johnson and Wales University Admissions Department.  It was a great day of collaboration and partnership!

Allapattah third graders earn rewards for book challenge

Allapattah students have taken on a new challenge this year with the implementation of the 100 Book Challenge.  Students are asked to earn ‘steps’ which are each equivalent to 15 minutes of sustained independent reading.  Just this week, a group of third grade students were recognized as the first to reach 100 steps. They were recognized by administration, given a medal and a speech of encouragement to continue down the path of regular reading. Students were excited to be awarded and they can be seen all around campus proudly wearing their medals to show off their hard work. Allapattah Teacher Serves as Khan Academy Ambassador

Kenya McGriff is a 7th grade Math teacher at Allapattah Flats K-8 school. In addition to teaching Math, she is an Ambassador for KhanAcademy. As an Ambassador, she encourages other teachers to try the program and is available to answer technical questions that they may have while using it. Khan Academy is a free program that students can use to sharpen their skills in a variety of subjects. Allapattah students try learning the recorders karate style

Danya Etter’s third through fifth grade students at Allapattah K8 School are karate chopping recorders to the next level. Recorder karate is a fun and exciting method that allows students to learn the recorder and test for “karate belts.” These belts hang from their recorders and they earn different colors as the music progressively gets harder. The first song, “Hot Cross Buns,” is a simple yet exciting tune that teaches students three notes: B, A, and G.
