Astounding Animal Adaptations at St. Lucie West K8

Fifth-grade students conducted a science experiment to determine the most effective adaptation of insulation for animals in the Arctic. They compared human skin, aluminum foil (fish scales), marbles (turtle shells), and Crisco (blubber) by placing a hand inside a bag filled with an insulator and then into buckets of icy cold water. After making observations through repeated trials, the students concluded that blubber was the most effective adaptation for warmth, with aluminum foil coming in second place!

Assisting the Botanical Gardens

On February 12th and 13th, the Port St. Lucie JROTC Jaguar Battalion conducted a two-day volunteering event at the Botanical Gardens Annual Plant Sale on Westmoreland Blvd. The Plant Sale is an event that allows the Jaguar Battalion to assist and communicate with the customers who visited the Garden to purchase plants and other unique commodities. The cadets interacted with the customers and helped carry their items to their vehicles. Our cadets had a wonderful experience participating in the event.

Assistant principal Sanabria recognized by education commissioner

Treasure Coast High School Assistant Principal Henry Sanabria was recognized at the Florida Department of Education Commissioner’s Leadership Award luncheon recently as St. Lucie County’s nominee for 2014 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year. Pictured are Sanabria, left, and Commissioner Pam Stewart. Congratulations for this outstanding achievement.

ArtWalk for Hope and Bingo for Books

River Edge Elementary hosted an ArtWalk for Hope and Bingo for Books Family Event on Thursday, April 7. Students created “hopeful” images on sidewalks around the entire school. From flowers to pizza to rainbows students were given creative freedom to share their ideas of HOPE. Parents came at 6 pm to take in all their student’s artwork, then were invited into the cafeteria and greeted with an “artful” treat provided by the PTO. Bingo for Books began at 6:30 pm with their parents, students played round after round in hopes of winning a book!

Arts In Education are “Sweet”

At Frances K. Sweet, students and teachers are celebrating “Fine Arts in the School” month. Mr. Ingram’s classroom entrance welcomes students with “The Colors of Music” and each week they will be exploring a new genre of music. In Mrs. Miller’s Visual Arts class, students are exploring different medias and are voting on which piece of art will come out on top in our Sweet Sixteen championship! Artists “Among Us” Oak Hammock K-8 Middle School Art Project

First year art students in Ms. Douglas’s art class were challenged with creating their own “Among Us” online game character. Students combined artist styles and visuals from this popular game to produce their masterpiece. The project required students to choose an artist from an 8-poster panel and incorporate characteristics from this artist into their artwork by using enlarging techniques. The student’s final design was individualized by choosing a specific art media and using craftmanship practices.

Art Zines & Artist Talk at FPC

  A Zine a Day Fort Pierce Central High School Visual Art teacher Ms. Emily Royo hosted a recent artist talk with Florida Designer Naomi Taher and her drawing students. Aligned with Florida’s Sunshine State Standards, Ms. Royo infuses relevant context, and contemporary practices, and introduces local artists. Taher and Royo are FAU alumni and former classmates. Currently a Senior Graphic Designer at FAU, Taher frequently works with Zines, 2D collages that combine text and imagery layered on folded papers. Art Students at Oak Hammock K8 Display Their Artistic Talents

Students at Oak Hammock K8 school Level Up Learning, Level Up Success, as they integrate math and art! In Mrs. Daugherty’s 7th grade Art class, students used their creative skills and imagination to create a masterpiece while incorporating the mathematic skill of measurement into their design. They measured lines and created shapes, forms, textures, values, space, and color, which are the 7 elements of art. These elements are the foundation of art and are a good place to start when making or analyzing works of art.

Students’ ceramic art pieces from Art Instructor Katherine Avra’s classes at Fort Pierce Central High School are on their way to the New York City National Art Education Conference this month.  These selections join other entries from across the United States as showcase pieces by Skutt Ceramics. Art in the Clouds- Fort Pierce Central High School AICE Field Trip

On November 6th, Fort Pierce Central High School’s AICE Digital Media & Design class went on an exploratory field trip to Superblue Miami, an interactive art gallery. This immersive experience allowed the students to step inside living artworks moving through memorable and thought-provoking encounters. The exhibits ranged from “Massless Clouds,” an ethereal and ever-changing room of white foam, to “forest of us” a maze enclosure covered in all directions by endless mirrors. These encounters immerse observers in 4D through physical interaction, environmental alterations, and light manipulation. Viewers become an active part of the art. Art In The Capitol

As part of an annual appreciation of the Arts in education, students share various selections of art in hopes of their piece being selected and placed on display the State Capitol.  This year’s Art in the Capitol selection honors the artistic abilities of Oak Hammock eighth grader Amber Hobbs. Representative Delores Hogan Johnson was present at the May School Board Meeting to recognize Amber and celebrate her work.

Student artwork from around the district was amazing, and the decision was difficult for the judges.  Artists demonstrated depth, movement, brush strokes, detail, and flow in their work.  Comments from the judges also focused on dynamic contrasts within art selections that included delicacy and boldness, as well as vibrancy and stillness.   Congratulations are extended to all participants.  The following submissions were recognized at the October School Board meeting with the first place winner’s artwork being presented to Representative Larry Lee’s office.  This piece will hang in the State Capitol for the entire Legislative session.   Congratulations to the winners of the … Read More

 Congratulations to CAST sixth-grader, Emily Tourjee, for winning the annual “Drop Savers” Poster contest! April is Water Conservation Month and Port St. Lucie Utilities Systems invited St. Lucie County K-12 students to participate in the 6th annual 2022 Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. Mrs. Grasso offered the contest to her middle school Graphic Arts classes as it aligns with Graphic Design principles – combining words and images. Art classes at Allapattah Flats work on enlarging scale

Fifth grade students in Tekia Montgomery’s elementary art classes at Allapattah Flats K-8 are re-introduced to the concept of enlarging.  They will create enlarged drawings from small pictures using a grid technique. Students will use T- squares and work together to make a large grid where they will transfer their original drawings into a larger scale. This year’s theme is under the sea. This particular project is done every year, and although this project is a bit of a challenge for the students, it seems to be a favorite! Army Robotics Demo at Westwood

Major Godfrey and Sergeant First Class Lewis hosted an Army Robotics Demonstration for students involved with JROTC, Robotics, and students recently recognized for their PBIS efforts. The students engaged in interactive demonstrations with bomb disposal and surveillance robotics.
