Bayshore Elementary recently celebrated positive choices with a PBIS Quarter 3 Positive Behavior Celebration! This special event recognized all students who earned zero BIRs (Behavior Incident Referrals) and zero ODRs (Office Discipline Referrals) during the third quarter. Their commitment to following school expectations truly paid off. During the celebration, students enjoyed fun activities of their choice. One popular option was the “wet area,” where staff members joined in the fun by spraying water guns and sprinklers, bringing lots of laughter and excitement. Bayshore Elementary, PBIS and Kids at Hope presented Beat the Teacher Night! Bayshore families and students played various academic games against the teachers. Second grade student Bianca Morais and her father Mark Morais played chess against second grade teacher Garth Gittin.
Bayshore Elementary School’s Open House was a great success. Families had an opportunity to meet teachers and staff members. Families were also provided assistance in the computer labs to find their children’s bus and lunch information. Odyssey of the Mind teams from Bayshore Elementary School recently competed in regional competitions. Odyssey of the Mind is an international education program that provides creative problem solving opportunities for students. The Problem 4 Team, led by fifth grade teacher Heather McWilliams and volunteer Gerry Waugh, earned second place. Every month Bayshore Elementary media center holds a research contest. Congratulations to Angela Castellon from Christine Mueller’s fifth grade class who won the most recent Media Center Contest by researching to find the names of books written by Martin Luther King Jr.
Bayshore proudly stepped into the spirit of unity at this year’s MLK Parade, honoring a legacy that continues to inspire our school community. Bayshore Elementary recently hosted a successful Student‑Led Conference, providing an opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning and share their progress with their families. Two sessions were held to support all grade levels, including VPK–2 and grades 3–5. Parents were invited to meet with their children to review their academic work and data. Each student prepared a folder containing unit assessments, i‑Ready data, PM data, and samples of classwork. A PowerPoint guided families with meaningful questions to help spark discussion and reflection. Students from Abby Mollet’s and Garth Gittin’s first grade classes from Bayshore Elementary School were invited to sing at Florida Community Bank where WPSL 1590 and Christmas Kids paired up for a toy drive. The students sang holiday songs that were broadcasted live on the radio and were led by Bayshore Elementary music teacher Carolyn Cline. Bayshore Elementary students enjoy taking the time to help others.
Bayshore Elementary’s first grade has embarked on an exciting new unit about 2 and 3-dimensional shapes! To introduce this fascinating topic, Mrs. Jones’ class spent time engaging in a hands-on activity with playdough. The students built various shapes, learning to identify them by their names and counting how many sides each shape has. This creative exercise not only helped the students grasp the basic properties of shapes but also allowed them to explore and experiment with their own creations. Students in Andrea Logue’s fifth grade science class at Bayshore Elementary explored sound energy last week. They used tuning forks to investigate how sound is produced by vibrations. Then students were challenged to use those vibrations to transfer the sound energy to the ping-pong ball to make it move. They learned that energy is never used up, but instead it changes form. In this case, sound energy was transformed into mechanical energy. Science comes to life at Bayshore Elementary!
Bayshore Elementary School recently held a “Minute to Win It” event for students and their families. This was an exciting evening of learning combined with the fun of “Minute to Win It” activities. Families learned many strategies to help their children be successful with reading and math skills. Pictured is fifth grade teacher A.J. Bayshore Elementary families had a wonderful night of learning during the FCAT Information Night. The families started the night with a delicious dinner of baked ziti, salad and garlic bread cooked by business partner Big Apple Pizza. Our School Counseling Team at Bayshore Elementary partnered with Children Services Council of St. Lucie County and Ms. Loudy Mortimer our of our District’s Bilingual Parent Education Program earlier this year to provide a literacy pack for some of our students here at Bayshore. The packs included: a bag, a book, an activity book, importance of literacy information page, comprehension questions for parents to ask students in multiple languages, an information sheet concerning the New World Reading Program in multiple languages, the St. Lucie County Public Library application for each student, and a multilingual information sheet about benefits beyond books … Read More
