The students and staff at Fort Pierce Westwood High School welcomed Mr. Michael Carbenia, the director of Career & Technical Education, as a guest in the Speakers Bureau series. Mr. Carbenia opened his presentation with a PowerPoint used to describe the Career & Technical Education program. He explained to students that the Career and Technical Education program offers a complete range of career options for all students, helping them to discover their interests and the educational pathways that lead to success. Car Wash 9/28/19

Saturday, September 28, 2019, the Port Saint Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion conducted their first car wash of the year. Approximately 30 cadets from the program volunteered to wash cars from 8A.M. to 12P.M. Money raised at the carwash went towards the Raider team and miscellaneous JROTC activities/events. This was a fun event that brought the cadets out to the community and helped to teach the cadets the value of teamwork and communication. Overall the event had a great turnout and was full of positive energy throughout the day.

FPC Cobra Chronicles In the midst of a complicating and trying year, Fort Pierce Central students wanted to share the lesser heard stories in Cobra Nation and the community and a school newspaper was the answer. Caleb Miller’s grandfather, Art Lauzon, came and visited Michelle O’Keefe’s kindergarten class as Capt’n Book.  Dressed as a pirate, he entertained the students with a fun-filled book. Mr. Lauzon is a retired principal from Duval County and loves helping support reading in the school.

Captain Wattage Visits White City Elementary

Students had the opportunity to engage in the Captain Wattage performance.  Students learned about energy and electricity.  Students also learned about the uses of energy, ways energy is wasted, and how to conserve energy.  

Captain Wattage Stops by Bayshore Elementary

In November, members of the School Counseling Team coordinated for the National Theater for Children to stop by Bayshore to do a performance for our K-2 students. During this performance, students learned about energy conservation, how we measure energy used, how energy is wasted, and what renewable energy is. During the show, students learned important lessons about energy efficiency, and teachers were provided lessons and activities to prolong the engagement for well after the end of the performance. Capt. Wattage Visits SLE

St. Lucie Elementary students received a special presentation from the National Theatre for Children. During the presentation, the students learned from Captain Wattage the importance of energy conservation and how they can reduce energy consumption at home. Since 1978, The National Theatre for Children has dedicated itself to teaching young students about important and timely issues. Cancer survivor shares his story with WestGate students

Students from West Gate K-8 were recently visited by Rick Bender, a cancer survivor. Rick is a motivational speaker who shares his story of surviving throat cancer after losing a section of his face to illustrate the dangers of spitless tobacco. He had the students captivated with his personal story and the information he imparted about the big tobacco companies that target the youth. Cancer awareness event is personal at Weatherbee Elementary

CAM Walks in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness

Staff at Chester A. Moore Elementary gather in honor of our two breast cancer survivors Gloria Daughtry and Vernita Toombs. We completed a 1-mile walk, a pinning ceremony in honor of, and a pink fashion show.

First grade students enjoyed their day at the 4-H farm. Students were able to see up-close various animals on the farm.  

CAM Students Celebrate Literacy Week with Book Buddies

Mrs. Bueno and Ms. Vazquez joined together for book buddies. Second-graders in Mrs. Bueno’s class did a wonderful job reading and showing the Kindergarteners in Ms. Vazquez’s class how to read! When students come together to lift each other up we can continue to soar to new heights!

CAM K8 Had Special Visitor at Kindergarten Kick-Off

Incoming Kindergarten students at Chester A. Moore K8 Academy of Success didn’t know they would get to meet the character in their read-aloud when they came to Kindergarten Kick-off this past Wednesday. Curious George (AKA Principal Lexi Laoutas) surprised students with this special visit. Students got to spend the morning with their teachers to see what life will be like in a kindergarten classroom. Chester A. Moore teachers, staff, families, friends and community leaders came together for an evening of fun. Harvest Fest 2016 was put together to bring our families together, show our students a great time, and was 100% free to all.      

CAM 2nd Grade Student Travis Brooks Uses Manipulatives to Master MA.2.NSO.2.1

Travis Brooks, a second grader, is using manipulatives to solve problems aligned with the math standard MA.2.NSO.2.1: recalling addition facts with sums up to 20 and related subtraction facts with automaticity. 19 – 9 = ___ or 9 + ____ = 19 By using tools like counters, Travis can visualize the numbers, practice different combinations, and build a solid foundation in addition and subtraction facts. This hands-on approach helps him develop speed and accuracy while making math fun and engaging! Keep up the great work, Travis!
