CAST Kindergartners Engineer Arctic Homes

Kindergartners and first graders in Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Benton’s class at CAST constructed safe and warm shelters for an arctic animal of their choice during a Stop & STEAM event. Students also enjoyed adding to their animal’s home by painting the setting of where their animals live to complete their landscape. This project culminated all of their learning about the seasons and weather.

CAST Kindergarteners Meet their Goals

Kindergarten students at CAST met their WIG – or Widely Important Goal! Students set the goal of “walking in a straight, quiet line with no playing and eyes forward” for six weeks. They tracked their data and reflected when they did and didn’t meet their goal each week. WIGs are part of the Leader in Me program, the leadership program implemented at CAST to create well-rounded and effective leaders.

CAST Kindergarteners Dance to Rainbow Fish

Kindergarteners at CAST listened to the story “The Rainbow Fish” and then completed a story map together to find the characters, setting, and major events. Then students listened to Aquarium from Carnival of the Animals and used their bodies to express the story. They stretched their arms wide like the starfish and wiggled fast like Rainbow Fish. This story also helped students think win-win!

CAST Kindergarten Driveway Visits

CAST Kindergarten teacher and STEAM Advocate Mrs. Rebecca Benton made some special deliveries to her brand new kindergarten students. She went door-to-door delivering goodie bags filled with some treats, an all about me poster, and “jitter glitter” to make sure there were no nerves for their very first day of school.

CAST K-2 Students Celebrate Women in the Arts

During Women’s History Month, CAST students in kindergarten, first, and second grade used their creativity to honor artistic women in innovative ways. Kindergarteners researched Frida Kahlo’s life and legacy; they observed her many beautiful self-portraits and how she always wore ornate clothing, jewelry, and flowers in her hair. CAST K-2 Spring Show

We are so proud of our K-2 performers, they did an amazing job in their Spring Show! They danced, sang, and acted beautifully! Students wore costumes created by the Elementary Visual Arts class. Thank you to the Fine Arts teachers for leading them!  

CAST Integrates Science and Art

CAST seventh grade students in Mrs. Cruz’s science class learned about genes and how they store heredity information. Students drew and designed Punnett Square diagrams. They completed an interactive Heredity web quest, integrating visual arts, technology and science.

CAST Hydro Dips

Middle school students in Mr. Cruz’s Visual Arts class experimented with hydro dipping. They sprayed paint into water then dipped paper to create a marble effect. The final products are ‘marble-lous’! 

CAST Hosts Family Basics Kickoff Night

CAST held their first Leader in Me Family Basics Kickoff Virtual night on Facebook Live! Students then enjoyed an interactive Nearpod with video presentations created by the Leadership League. Students learned how the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People will benefit their life and their families’ lives.

CAST Hands-On in the Lab

Scientific inquiry is in full swing at CAST! Eighth-grade students explored photosynthesis and cellular respiration in our newly renovated science lab. Hands-on learning helps strengthen our connections to the core content. 

CAST Graphic Artists Design Business Cards Fit for Royalty

In celebration of Women in Art, CAST middle school Graphic Arts students listened to a story written and illustrated by Croatian artist Smiljana Coh called The Seven Princesses. Each princess in the story had specific likes and talents – from architecture to art to athletics, and everything in between. Students were then instructed to imagine themselves as designers inside the kingdom where they were hired by one of the princesses to create a business card for their entrepreneurial venture. The students learned a quick overview of the anatomy of a business card and created a card fit for a princess.    

CAST Goes to the History Fair

St. Lucie Public Schools hosted their 30th Annual History Day district fair on February 21-25. National History Day is a historical research project that allows for a creative display of research, based on the theme of Debate and Diplomacy. 8th grader Kaleel Dennis was selected to move on to the Florida National History Day competition. Kaleel submitted a paper on “The Politics of the Reconstruction Era”.

CAST Goes to the Farm

Kindergarten, first and second-grade students went on a field trip to the 4H Farm! They learned about various farm animals, gardening, and Florida agriculture! We had a blast! 

CAST Florida Junior Thespian Society

Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie welcomed new members into the Florida Junior Thespian Society, an honorary organization for middle school students (grades 6-8) who participate in theatre arts programs. It recognizes and rewards excellence in theatre through student membership in a school’s troupe and provides opportunities for advanced training and mentorship. The society’s mission is to help students grow and develop through theater arts by providing educational experiences and celebrating achievement. CAST First Graders Reach for the Stars

First graders in Ms. Smith’s class designed and constructed their own constellations as a culminating Stop & STEAM event after their unit of learning about the sky, sun, moon and stars. Students enjoyed tasting their starry creations too!  

CAST First Grader Wins Poster Contest

Congratulations to CAST first grader, Gianna Grasso, for winning the annual “Drop Savers” Poster contest. April is Water Conservation Month and Port St. Lucie Utilities Systems invited St. Lucie County K-12 students to participate in the 5th annual 2021 Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. The purpose of the contest is to raise awareness as well as educate young people on the importance of saving water. Only one student was selected from each grade and Gianna won! We celebrated her on the CAST morning announcements.

CAST Fine Art Classes Celebrate Women in Art

Elementary music students learned about Evelyn Glinney, a deaf percussionist who composed music and would take her shoes off to feel the vibrations of her songs. Students played drums to feel vibrations. Middle School visual art students studied works of art by Helen Frakenthaler who was famous for using non-traditional tools in her paintings. Students then explored different techniques to express themselves in this abstract way. Middle school dance students dedicated several dances in their spring show to renowned artist, Janet Jackson.

CAST Fifth-Graders Honor Artistic Women of The Past, Present, and Future

In honor of Women’s History Month, fifth-grade students at CAST collaborated to create a banner honoring women in the arts. Students researched notable women in the fields of visual and performing arts. Their pennants included important life events, life lessons, and traits that led to their success. As a result of studying notable women of our past and present, the students discovered great things can come from adversity when they believe in their own abilities and the abilities of those around them and that they, too, can become notable artists of the future.  

CAST Dancers Dazzle at Disney

The CAST Dance Team performed on Dec. 18th, 2021 at Disney Springs. They performed eight dances, including Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip-Hop styles. They were able to enjoy the rest of the day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It was a once-in-a-lifetime performing opportunity and team bonding experience!
