Congratulations to Allapattah Flats elementary spelling bee winners

The Allapattah Flats school family congratulates the top two students in the elementary school spelling bee.  The competition was fierce as the students were phenomenal spellers and they were each very determined to do their best. Diego Teran and Bryant Melton were the top two in elementary with Bryant Melton as the first place winner. Congratulations to all students who participated, you did a fantastic job! Good luck to Bryant who will go on to participate in the district spelling bee.

Congratulations Northport K-8 History Fair Winners

Congratulations to our Northport K-8 middle grades students who represented our community at the St. Lucie Public Schools History Fair. These students prevailed and received accolades for exemplary work in several categories. Heather Canales, Laura Guarino, and Allyson Sheets won third place in a group exhibit. Brooke Hundley and Laci Ford won first place for Group Website, and McKayla Sanon won third place for an individual website. Jamie Rosenberg won second place for Individual Website. Leadership St. Lucie is a community leadership adventure! This year’s SLPS Class of 2019 is nearly 3,000 strong, and there is a lot to be proud of. Students earned scholarships totaling $25,801,907, 186 students earned their AA Degrees while in high school, and the District assigned 75 “A Promise Is A Promise” contracts to students planning to seek careers as educators.

Confectionery Coordinates Interactive Challenge at VGESS

Dr. Jacqueline Venzen,  Dr. Thomas Gay, and their fifth-grade students celebrated recent learning gains by engaging in a large-scale interactive math activity. Utilizing the hallway walls, a vast coordinate grid was constructed to support student learning based on current math curriculum standards.  Students first rolled their colored dice to represent numbers along the X and Y axes, then the numbers were identified and plotted on the coordinate grid in the quest to find a sweet treat.  Each student had the opportunity to locate the selected plotted points as they enjoyed this student participatory activity.  After this whole group activity, students … Read More

Compensation Agreements Reached for All Employees

The School Board of St. Lucie County and all bargaining units have reached agreements regarding salary compensation for the 2018-2019 school year. Returning CTA employees will receive an $850 retention supplement.  Their retro portion of this $850 (representing 7/1/18 through current) will be distributed by 12/19/18 and should equal approximately half of the negotiated supplement amount.  The remaining negotiated supplement balance will be paid in equal installments over the remaining paychecks for 2018-2019. All CU employees will receive a $250 bonus by 12/19/18.  In addition, returning employees will receive a supplement in the amount equivalent to their step within the … Read More

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — It is no secret that the Florida Legislature did not provide adequate funding this year for Florida’s public schools. The St. Lucie CTA/CU and the District have worked together to get the most out of exhausted funding options stretched thin by legislative shortfalls and unfunded mandates. Companies Compete for Victory at 2019 Annual Field Day!

On Saturday May 4, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion held its annual Field Day for the school year 2018- 2019. Each Company competed in several athletic events including: relay race, Jag Ball, soccer, capture the guide-on, kickball and dodge ball. Cadets were excited to show their skills against the other Companies in friendly team games. Everyone kept the games fair but competitive. A Community Team comprised of local leaders (Mayor Hudson, Nick Mimms, Will Armstead, Judi Miller, Deb LaBella and Joe Smith) and St. Lucie Public Schools district personnel joined with St. Lucie Elementary School’s leaders to brainstorm support strategies for students.
